MEP 802A - Roof structure with a baffle...anyone done this already?

I have a new to me MEP 802A, 2011 model that has 20 hours on it. I cannot find anything indicating that it was depot rebuilt...I am somewhat familiar with the process on the Marine Corps side of things having spent my adult life in the gun club...so, pretty sure this is a 2011 model that sat for years. There are two solar panels on the top cover, with charge controllers on it, that do not look military to me...sloppy install, but the solar panes look mil specish...for what that is worth.

Anyway, I want to build a structure over this with some sort of baffle to quiet it down even more then the 68 db it is making now. My thought is to use a piece of metal ducting just over the exhaust pipe, and duct the exhaust into a series of baffles in the roof the structure I am building over this.

I am also going to cut up some horse stall mats I have to place under the four corners to try and eat up some of the vibration.

Anyone done similar?

Yes, there is at least two guys who have done this as far as I can remember. My old burnt out brain can not remember who. But they might chime in.

I think a lot of the noise on my 802 was coming from the 4 lifting rings in the corners of the skid. I added a small piece of bubble wrap around them to quiet them down. I've also read about folks removing the little locking pieces that hold the doors open, since they tend to rattle too.

If you will never use the rings, just pull the tank cover and undo the (2) bolts and take them suckers off.

Hey guys I am new to the forum. Picked up a 803A and as you can see I am building a full enclosure for it. Any finish ideas other than lots of venting? Was going to run the exhaust through the roof. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Thanks, for the ideas. Noodling through how I want to do this. I live out in the woods, and any noise is...noticeable. During our extended hurricane outages, I don't want a big bright X painted on my house because we are chugging along making power. We already adhere to light discipline...so, noise discipline is part and parcel with that.

If it were me and noise were a true consideration for concealment purposes, I would be building a structure part earth, part concrete block, taking into account elevation and wind direction.

Since you mentioned you live out in the woods...

There was an old thread on here a few years ago with a member discussing when he was in the military they built a bunker type enclosure out of sand bags to accommodate a generator.

Having walls built out of sand bags, or earth berms, would absorb lots of sound and would be naturally fireproof. As for a roof structure you could build it out of something that would allow you to position layer of sand bags, or sod/earth, on top if you find it necessary to attenuate the sound even more.

Edit: If building an enclosure of this type its naturally going to be well insulated. So, keep in mind that there has to be adequate ventilation with cool air coming in low and hot air venting off the topmost wall or through roof. If sand bagging or earth berming, I would envision something like small framed out sliding windows, or duct work, that would be screened to keep the critters out or completely shut when unit is not in operation.

The thread on the muffler is 1 1/4 npt if you need to add a fitting. 1 5/8 ID muffler pipe fits snugly over the thread
