Hello fellow MVers. I have had an M1009 that I have put about 230,000 miles on as it's first civilian owner. It was my daily for 20+ years until I decide to drive a car that was easier on fuel.
Anyway, I digress. AS you can imagine, parts wear out at times and must be repaired or replaced.
When I purchase my truck from Ft. Polk Louisiana the read glass was broken out and some of the tailgate latching mechanism was broken.
After working on it and cleaning the sugar sand out from the instrument panel, I found an electric tailgate in a junk yard from a GMC Jimmy which is the same truck but a different logo.
This donor truck was burned out in the front from an engine fire on a gas version.
Anyway, $50 later I had a used but good tailgate installed and have been happy with it. The riser cable broke in it due to wear but the transmission is what actually wore out.
While in there lubing the riser and checking things over I found that the return spring on the right side latch was broken. Now LMC truck has the latch but I have never purchase one from them.
My query for the group is has anyone purchased one of their's or an even better one from another supplier.
I did not go to Parts.com yet but will although I suspect that these have long since been sold out in the OEM line.
Raising not a white flag but a flag for assistance. The spring is actually what has broken but I do not see a way to find a spring without hours and hours of research so a nice new latch would be welcome. Salvage yards are drying up on these older trucks too although a 30 year old, gently used part could also work.
