Howdy All!

Just purchased this 62 on Mothers day in Saginaw TX from possibly another member here named Jeffrey. Real nice fellow. We attempted the drive home to Seguin Tx 270 miles. Made it about 75 miles and the brakes were dragging resulting in a fire on middle passenger wheel. We used 4 of the 5 extinguishers we packed for the trip. Abbot Fire department came up after seeing our trouble and pumped several gallons of water to cool off the hub. We then parked it on a farm road to come back at a later date for transport. When we left it the brakes all had been locked up, when we came to pick it up no brakes at all except e brake. We got it on the trailer and semi in 1st crawling in low and e brake to stop it completely. It is now safely at our small farm.

This thread will be for a few things, one to introduce the new truck here, and to update my progress and share with other members even possibly years down the issues we have overcame. I look forward to conversing with you all future past and current members, and bouncing ideas. Yes I know to search and read the TMs. Enjoy the pics!

Added front winch, needs Pto and shaft installed (but I do have them)
Aftermarket headlight switch
Brake lights not currently functioning (possibly due to headlight switch?)
Heater
Upgraded aftermarket seats
Locks on doors
Keyed ignition
Radio installed
Giant lightbar
Was in parades previously in Dallas Tx Area
Prior to Jeffrey ownership was another private party reseller, prior to that somewhere in Oklahoma used as a volunteer Fire department Vehicle

Truthfully I was told what engine it was but do not recall. I have it written down. I will look up how to tell and then refer to my notes as well and report back likely tomorrow.i think I was told something like lti or Ltd Hercules? But I could be grasping at some long forgotten straws of another vehicle.

Today I was able to remove the middle axle passenger side wheels. Tomorrow will pull axle shaft and drum to inspect damage. Along with anything else that's required to do that.

Well turns out I do not have the 3 inch octagonal socket I thought I did, such a bummer when you think you have the tools for the job and don't. New one will be here tomorrow eod.

Was able to find out I have the continental Ltd multifuel c turbo engine. Guess I did mix a bit of mumbo jumbo on my guess in there. Here's a pic of the engine tag.

For the fire on the intermediate axle, we were actually stopping to eat and noticed the brakes smoking, had a following vehicle, tried to get a mile up to the restaurant/ gas station at the turn in I realized I had no brakes (pedal to the floor) decided better to go straight on access road and down shifted. Shut the master switch for power off and the other switch off and pulled the engine stop to stall it in second in a right turn lane. Then set the e brake and got a call from my dad in the following vehicle that once I stopped the drum caught on fire. We grabbed fire extinguishers and put it out. The fire department rolled by to see what was going on and offered to cool it off for us and block the road so we could park it for transport later. No damage to the tires visually that I can tell, we caught it early and kept it out. IMG_20210513_142513627.jpg

Today some parts came, new radiator cap, windshield wipers, pto shim gaskets, 3 inch 8 pt socket. Had a long day of work and its not quite over yet. likely won't get to work on the deuce again until Monday. No progress pics today unfortunately.

Pulled the axle shaft today. Looks like I'll be fine with just replacing the brake shoes spring and the wheel cylinder. Will of course repack bearings and use new seals when they arrive. Very happy with what was found! Quite a relief actually!

Installed new wheel cylinder, shoes, greased bearings, and installed new seals along with brake adjustments and bleeding. Got.to.drive it again! Was great to have it stop correctly! Now onto those front boots and that pesky brake light switch. If you haven't done so already, you still need to inspect your master cylinder, a) if its piston does return freely all the way back to its stop, b) if the pushrod has just a bit of play at least, after fully releasing the pedal, c) if the tiny hole inside the MC reservoir (called bypass- or equalisation port) is free of any debris.
Otherwise your brakes may lock up again, at the very first longer trip...!

Have not yet inspected the master, but did do a few nice things! Installed a new brake switch hydraulic one, and now the brake lights stay on! Ughhhh. Any ideas there? There were off on install then I pressed brakes and they stayed on.

Ordered the air side brake light upgrade kit from Big Mike's.

Installed the PTO shaft on winch and the PTO on trans with a .02 and .01 gasket. Man that was a pain by myself. Now it has fresh sae 30 as well. Although previous owner had already changed the fluid.

Had to put a 90 degree fitting on fuel line the PTO driveshaft kinked it. Luckily I had one handy that way correct size

Also installed the new wiper blades, and radiator cap.

Busy day today! Big Mike's brake light air switch and kit came in yesterday and got it installed today. Now my lights work correctly. I had one burnt out bulb luckily I had a spare from another set of lights Jeffrey the previous owner Included.

Also had an off road recovery that our normal off-road truck couldn't handle it got stuck bad, we were able to retrieve our truck with a nearby tree, run to the shop and grab the deuce with its newly working brake lights! The deuce made quick work of the job with its winch. Heck of a day!
