Engine cover turnlock fasteners

I noticed the other day that the turnlock fasteners were not holding the engine cover in place. I'm not sure why this would be, anyone more familiar with how it should be holding?

(These are the top two fasteners on the engine cover, they look like the same fasteners used to hold the rear seat backs in place.)

I think I just answered my own question. There is supposed to be some sort of 'lock spring' behind each place where they turn. And of course, I don't appear to have either.

I think the part I am talking about is "#5" in figure 208. "Engine Access Cover Assembly...." in
TM 9-2320-280-24P-1.

Looks like that will be on a future parts order!

Dzus fasteners. The back piece is basically a stiff piece of wire. You can just look behind the front seats to see what they clip to. You may be missing the bracket that holds the wire retainers. It runs all the way across the doghouse opening.

Drill out the old and replace with new. Two little spring clips seems like another weak HumV design.

You may need to adjust them to make them work correctly, (youtube will be a good guide) not a week design, just week brains applying undue force when something is not aligned or adjusted correctly

86humv thanks for the picture. I have the bracket, but the springs are both missing. So this makes it pretty clear I just need to get the springs, drill out the old rivets and replace them.

I finally got the springs replaced for the upper dog house mount. WOW, it made a HUGE difference in the interior noise both at idle as well as driving. You can actually ride inside it without feeling like your ears are going to bleed due to the noise. (Had to drive a few miles without any earplugs, and it was honestly very livable...)

So anyone else who might have those springs missing, definitely replace them. It will make the interior much quieter.

Post #5 has the whole bracket.

If those are standard Dzus springs you can buy them on line. I believe the rivets are 1/8” and it helps to have a 1/8 Rivet drill but not necessary.

Currently about $6 a piece. They had them in stock, but I did find other sellers with them as well, but stock wasn't clear.

For the rivets, I got them from amazon:
ISPINNER 100pcs 1/8" x 5/16" Aluminum Blind Rivets, 3.2 x 8mm Pop Rivets, Pack of 100 (Silver)

They worked perfectly for that, and I think they're also the same size as the rivets for the soft-top turn latch things.
