M35a2 dump conversion

I have a 1972 M35a2 with a Cargo bed and need to convert if to a dump truck but want a hydraulic dump because I know I will frequently be overloading it and it may be a bit much for a electric hoist and the cargo box.. Any suggestions?? the current box is in near perfect condition with a full canvas and seats, it would be hard to destroy that and make a dump.. it may be wise to sell the box with all the goodies and buy a new hoist and box .. one like this, does anyone know what is needed to hook one up? anyone have parts to do? thanks

Welcome , do a advanced search for dump conversion , there are several good threads on doing this . A belt driven pump off the motor with a electric clutch is a good option to the PTO set up.

If you have any big truck salvage yards in your area you can probably get everything you need off a old state plow truck with a rusted out box pretty reasonable .

You will need either a 2-way pto for the transmission or a transfercase pto .You will only get them surplus and they are not cheap .

You will need either a 2-way pto for the transmission or a transfercase pto .

You can do it with just the standard winch PTO if you never plan on having a PTO winch. You mount the pump beside the engine on the frame.

Of course you will have to get creative in order to shift that thing... (in-out, 1/2" of travel between both detents).


A small, air actuated cylinder (single action, spring loaded) is what I consider to be the most practical solution.

Would that be something like is on a standard dump truck. Any clue where I could get a set up like that. Boyce has a "special shifter for the main PTO for $200.00 . and a cable shift for the rear for $74.00 ." Air system sounds a bit better but not too familiar with this system.

Sure, a long enough, push-pull cable shift assembly might also work. Probably cheaper and easier for you to install.
