Please help identify an FMTV manual

This loose-leaf paper copy training manual is for the FMTV series trucks, but the model is not specified on the prints. The 50 plus page manual breaks out the truck systems, each on a page or two, not spread all over ‘30’ or more pages as is done in the manuals we have in the archives. Anyone who has tried to chase a circuit on the existing manuals knows what I mean.

For sure the manual is at lease an A1 version, maybe even an A1R? Please help me figure out to what trucks the manual applies, using these clues:

  • Pages dated 2008, 2009
  • Has ABS brakes
  • Has MMDC, the “vehicle date computer instrument”
  • Has LCBD, they call “Load Battery Control Device” (note the letters are mixed up)
  • Has remote engine starting
  • SAE J1939 data bus, and indicates J1587 data bus also.
  • Electronic master light switch
  • Has the PDM’s, 1 thru 4, instead of a power distribution board.
So what trucks are covered?

These are 11 x 17 paper pages of good quality. I cannot scan or copy them. I will be happy to send one person the best copy if he will promise to scan and post for the group in a timely manner.

is this a bound book? you willing to let it be unbound for scanning if it is? Anyone with a fair office printer/copier/scanner can scan 11x17 to PDF with such. Esp. if it has paper feed for the copier portion. It would not have nice search capability as the TM PDF's though without additional tweaking with rather expensive pdf software.

sounds like an A1R. I thought they didn't start installing ABS until the R... I can scan to .PDF, but I don't know if I can do 11X17, will have to check tomorrow.

It covers reset A1 and later A1R trucks with the C7 engine, but for the record all A1 trucks have ABS and some later rebuild A1's (with the 3126) have remote start like the later models. That being said...PDM's 1-4 refer to the black modules in the dash labeled 1-4 "Power Distribution Modules" which only the reset trucks and A1Rs got.

I'd be happy to scan them if Ronmar doesn't. I have access to a large scanner.

since they are loose leaf I can scan them but I don't have the nicer software to combine the resulting individual pages into a book format.

Much thanx Tennmogger.... you have always been a help to fellow owners.... be it Mog folk, FMTV's or otherwise.

oh that is easy.... A1R comes before the A2 and A2P as well as __P2 :tank: :jumpin::driver::ROFLMAO:

think A1R is those that have C7 engine... Most A1 has 3162?? Later A1 may have abs brakes also and pretty sure all A1R. No cab air ride as pre-prep for addition of armor upgrades.

How close I get folk? Do I get cardboard cookie or coal in my stocking?

I wonder what the “R” stands for? When the M1 tank progressed it took on a “IP” designator which meant Improved Production. R possibly means refit or ?

The early and most common trucks with 3116 and mechanical injection were A0 variant.

Later the 3126 was added with electronic injection for the A1 model. Many got LED light upgrades and some other changes S&S made based on feedback. A scant few of the later A1 trucks saw C7 engines. and a few got the trans upgrades (3070PT)

Finally, the A1R trucks were given the C7 and retrofitted with high rear pinion that corrected the drive shaft angle (a vibration issue). These have the Allison 3070PT. The A1R also got coilover front shocks to help support the added weight of potential armor. The cab air ride system was done away with at this point (as trucks with the added weight of armor would simply explode the bags).

There were other subtle changes with each variant (door handles, defroster vents, door straps, etc).

Finally, the armor capable P2 variants (these are the cabs that look like a stealth fighter with lots of sharp deflective angles). These cabs/trucks are still in use in some Army units and LOT of NG units. Civilians can't have the cool stuff (unless you're Taliban) and the Army scraps them to metal bits accordingly.
