Isn't there supposed to be a rubber bushing here?

I'd like to know how exactly that went missing. I've fought for days to get a crusty old bushing out of places just like that, but yours just got up and ran away?

So how is it attached? Seems like a weird arrangement. I've only had my truck for about 2 months, and have barely driven it as I just got my plates, and am still doing general maintenance

On a civilian truck, that leaf of the spring pack is just flat, and ends before going around the shackle part. "Military wrap" springs have the leaf that also loosely goes around the shackle part (as a backup to keep you limping if something breaks?). There is no bushing or anything in between them, since they normally shouldn't ever touch anyway.

On the maintenance side, you may find that getting grease in those joints is really difficult. There is a section about that here in my guide, in my signature.
