Kingpin Replacement can be easy with the right tool.

Looking good!

Nice to have friends who are able to come and get you @ the train station.
I enjoy a trip here in the states on Amtrak to Virginia.
Takes almost all day, but it is a relaxing ride...

Wow I've never seen a battery powered hytorc. Ive used a hydraulic one before, but a portable battery powered unit is very cool. You've got to be careful with those things, they can do damage very quickly!

My employer ist a big engineering company. We have it also in hydraulic version, but it is not so handy like the battery powered.
I needed it only for the kingpin all other torques can be done with my own tools.

Have today the car of my wife in service of a volvo shop include the technical test for road safety every 2 years.
Beside the test we could do the service ourself but to put the half car out of plastic parts before i reach the service points is annoying. I prefer to pay somebody to do that job 😂
They called me as it need an repair before it will pass the test.
Both brakeline connection in the rear be rotten  last control in autumn by change the summer on winter tires nothing seen.
But it is not more Volvo quality - the complete Suspension and braking system is Ford technology
Last spring was it the complete suspension with a broken spring - fortunately obviously by changing tires winter to summer

Okay the C30 is now 15 years old but in compare to the 35year old Truck  🤐 We changed complete brakesystem lines and brake cylinder on him not about it was rusty, rotten or in a bad shape. We changed about the old age.

I trust our Volvo service - they dont change if it is not necessary.
No new car/truck will ever reach the quality from our Oldies... Rest in Peace 😭Volvo 945 your grandchildren will never got your strength

That is true of even the better cars these days. Everything is maid out of beer cans and held together with bubblegum and bailing wire.

My wife has the only little black dress she like to wear safe for another two years
I'm always glad when I peel out of the car, it's at least two sizes too small for me.

We reached our goal, if we got end of year the same Signets on the licence plate of our truck

If everything runs perfectly by puzzeling the drum brake and then you realize during assembly that you forgot to paint something ...

20220409_115519 (2).jpg

20220409_120917 (2).jpg

....this means that today we are off work earlier than planned. We are also waiting for paint to dry on the front axle.... 😂

Maybe I should have controlled the truck better after i bought him. Driven more than 100000 Miles but I never checked the axle shaft bolts as there was no need for it .... On the rebuild now find this on the front left side.

20220412_065831 (2).jpg bolt.png

It must have been noticed in a service before our time because there was no rest stuck in the thread. He was just so screwed back in. Was probably at this moment no replacement at hand....
Will be now replaced of course.

Actually, the frame should be back on its wheels during the Easter holidays, but everything never runs smoothly.
In the end, parts were missing again that were not on our list but should be renewed. 😅

I seem to remember you mentioning that chrome wasn't going to be acceptable according the the head of the Finance Department  . Yes sir... Better make it how you want it because she does know how to use a paint brush too.

Project is moving forward for sure.
Looking good!

Oh yeah i remember the hard discussion before roadapproval as i used just the old Mirrows from the Van Project 2003 as the original wasnt yet paint black
And my wife insist to paint the air-horns black but she was right as the chrome was already in bad condition after more than 20 years. She accepted in the past them only as we bought them new and they was very expensive ;) she dont like to "destroy" something new and if it is just the surface

Testfahrt.jpg

Testdrive before Roadapproval

imm-023.jpg

1999 after new paint in red

She will got pretty nice painted mirrows if we are ready
The light bar will also renew as all headlights are also after more than 20 years in a "weak" condition.
We are still not sure which system we want use in future. This are all "Hella" Standard headlights Jumbo 220 - this are still available but maybe we change on LED-Headlights.
Unfortunately this is not possible for the main headlight as here in Germany doesnt LED Headlights existing with a roadapproval.

I am sure we will find something that we both will like.

Wow the fedex delivery man must be very stressed - he pushed the button "We were unable to deliver your package".... but found this while i open the door.
Since they dont ring anymore as we have in this room a contactless storage, it is always good to control it.

20220420_110242 (2).jpg

if we not had missed to order other spareparts for front and rear axle it had could go on next weekend.
But the other parts will be deliver next week...
So i guess we go on with the both tanks to prepare for their mount

Someone is being particularly kind to us. Ordered on Monday and delivered from the USA on Thursday. I am speechless 😎- it depends very much on the part and where it is ordered.
Well then it goes on with the axles after all also if still two parts on their way. ETA was like all of the order on Monday 25th to Tuesday 26th. So we have also a chance that it arrive earlier 🥳

20220421_114146 (2).jpg

I guess the delivery men will like us more and more as if they deliver us, than the half delivery truck is empty....😅

Another chrome-issue... 😅

Well she can choose now:
1. I take the new freewheel hubcab destroy the chrome and paint them in any colour she want - but not to forget i have to destroy a new part...
2. She search in our shop the old hubcabs which was painted in the past red and we use an old part repainted on the new rebuild....
I know very well that 1 nor 2 is her preference but as there is no 3 ....

My advice we take the hubcab in chrome as it fit with the other "blinky-bills" on the wheel...
😇

Another chrome-issue... 😅
I'm facing the same dilemma. All rivets and bolts on the frame have been replaced with 8.8 zinc plated bolts. Do I scuff them up and paint them or not? I don't want anything to shine... Then again, the frame isn't very visible when looking at the truck once it is done... In the future I will face the same dilemma again, but with in-sight parts...

Rivets and Bolts on the frame and unter the truck will be covered by Underbody and cavety sealing which come as final step. But you are right it will not solve the problem of the in-sight parts.
Just looking for door handles ... my wife only find new in chrome by several vendors...
Window sealings no problem this are without trimelines

Testfahrt a.jpg

The wheelnuts will be easy to cover with caps
I will let the decision which Freewheelcap i shall paint on my wife ... i have a 50/50 Chance to choose the wrong one 😂
I'm pretty pragmatic about it - I don't care which one I paint.
The next will be the question paint in black or green 🥳 My opinion black, my wife is of course still not sure about that. Military dont care in Style accents 😇 As far i know was wheel and hub complete green

20220430_145131 (2).jpg

my wife said now we can dance tango again in the workshop, we gained a lot of space back. Especially since we also put the old 6.2 back together in order not to have all individual parts lying around in the workshop.
Now it goes on with the new brake lines and the tanks.

20220430_103219 (2).jpg

all tie rods will be new - preadjustmenmt on the bench

20220430_145436 (2).jpg

we dont know what we will do with that "dead" (rebuild not worth it) engine - maybe we make some nice gifts from it like below
