M151 carburetor rebuild - Brooks Engine service

Hi,

I have a M151 A1 that is in the process of getting lots of preventive maintenance done and mostly all done with all kinds of gaskets, seals, bearings, lubrication, brake system rebuilt. My mechanic rebuilt the carburetor and it runs a lot better than when I got it but he saw this youtube video from Brooks Engine Service and told me to get in touch. But I am not sure if the place is still in business. I tried the number listed for the business but it has been disconnected. Anyone know? Or, any other shop/service that mods/rebuilds the carburetor to overcome the flat spot and actually tests it on an engine before shipping it back? Thanks.

The number I have for Brooks is 727-871-4283. I sure hope they are still around. I had them rebuild the carb on our M151a2 and the thing runs like a top. No flat spot, no running with the choke out a 1/4 inch. Whatever they do to these carbs, works. Some of my friends have had the same results…

i searched and only found the address no website. What did they charge for rebuilds just want to compare to buying one from armyjeepparts, rapco and others I buy stuff from. They have good rebuilds just always searching for price competition but quality is number #1. Just curious.

I do rebuilds on the 151 carbs. I do not really advertise other than word of mouth from people who have had them done by me. I take your core and clean it and rebuild it with modern parts from Zenith. I do not bead blast it and make it show car pretty. My prices are much lower than Brooks but again, mine don't shine. I do not spend much time here on SS other than the "How cold is it" thread so you will have to PM me to get to me. The kits I use have gotten rather expensive so I do not keep a lot of them in stock, I buy them as needed so if you want a carb done you let me know and I order a kit. Usually the kits get here at the same time as the carb or before but sometimes there is a little wait.

Are you still rebuilding carburators ?

Those carbs were notoriously a PITA. I found that the Venturi would be a little loose. If you stuck your middle finger into the carb, while the motor was running, with your hand from the top so that your finger curled up, that flat spot disappeared. You could also feel that piece was loose. On top of the carb there was a small plastic plug that hid a small screw. Carefully removing that plug and snugging that screw down a tiny bit often cured the problem.

I’m going to see if I can find an exploded view of that carb.

I see that the Army had a couple of different carb models it used. I only ever saw that Zenith being used. It looks like there are even modern replacement available.

The only "Modern" version was the Taiwanese version of the Zenith built under contract from Zenith as replacement carb. The numbers on top of the carb are different but other than that it is a 13660 series carb.
