M101/105 bow parts question

On the steel M101/M105 cover bows. What are these adapters for/do? I circled it in red. They are adjustments for?? Are they a holdover from the days of the M37 series?

no mention of them in the M101 or M105 series TM's.

To adjust the length. M101 are shorter than the m105. Both trailers use the same metal bows.

Always thought they were there to take up some slack. M105 stake pockets are smaller dimensionally than m101.

Doing some research, I think you are correct.

The bow length and height are both adjustable. M105's are taller and wider.

The length, yes. Height, I dont see how. The sideboards of the 101/105 trailers give the different heights, not the bows. I agree with Porkchop that they are a sleeve for the bigger stake pockets.

OK, so I dropped all the adapters to the lower position, and it did, as Porkchop said, tighten up the gap in the stake pocket. Good info.
