Steering wheel chain

I’ve seen a handful of CUCVs (including mine) that have a chain welded to one of the seat bolts so the steering wheel can be locked.

is this simply just a hillbilly security system that one of the many owners did over the years?

Or was this done to some trucks while they were in service?

Either way mine is going bye-bye

Got it, I figured that being that all of the keys are the same

I'd leave it and kick the chain under the seat when driving. Use it for parking to keep the pinheads away. Get 3 keyed alike padlocks. Use one for the steering wheel, one for the spare tire carrier, and the last on the hood chain if you have such.

My M54A1 came with one, still has it.

I've seen other rigs with a single chain link welded to the shifter. Loop the chain thru the wheel, lock it to the shifter in gear.

I still use the one in mine. I list it as an antitheft device with insurance.
