Getting to it... CAMO tip of the day

HumV not the easiest to get at the engine. parts... top side working an IP swap today. So old tired bones đź‘´here... twisted up in a ball, hanging off of 37 inch tires, is not the least bit fun. I know there are special supports ladder systems... BUT But but the few times I need to do the heavy duty stuff, not worth it.

So in 114 degree heat, 16 % humidity, thinking cap on, here's what I did. Get rid of dancing around big old tires. Bring the truck down to a manageable level. Step right up and reach into the work with less muscle pain trying to make out like a circus contortionist. Extra bonus.... sturdy step stool and heavy thick mat over the pointy corner. See the pictures.

Step back and get down. Hubs are on a wood 2X10 LOW RIDER , lol Step right up and have a peek at the problem

Look at all that dancing room No fighting to hold on or fall off. Not using step stool. Easy reach 1/2 way

Great Tip!!
The first thing I do when doing any serious work on any HMMWV is to pull the tires, makes everything easier, a real plus is to have it on a lift at the same time.
I drop a couple 4x4 blocks at the base of the lift towers and when the lift is put all the way down the geared hubs just touch the floor.

Two ladders each side with 2”x12” each side on the third ring all ladders. Bonus is no lifting tires.

You did exactly what i've done in decades past when R/R engines in M880-types and larger trucks.. When i was in my teens and 20's i had no issue doing tasks without dismantling other things.. But I got smarter after that to take a few steps further and remove the hood, the grille & radiator support , as well as both front fenders and tires .. Whenever replacing manifold gaskets, i remove tire and fender on the offending side , the little extra time it takes sure saves having to lay across a fender edge struggling with seized bolts while teetering on a stool, step ladder, or upside-down 5gal pail :razz:

Gosh you embarrass me for complaining about the Florida Inferno of only 95 degrees with 90% humidity! Average day, feels like 105 in the sun.

With only 14% humidity I would definitely get me one of those cooling fans that spray water mist. Here in Florida, they only thing those things do is make it like working in a wet sponge.

The other thing I desire is called the Shade Wagon - but it is $500 :eek: Wish I had a shade tree!

I always do this with my lifted trucks. Pull the front wheels off and set it down on its axle. Makes life so much easier.

Are they still building quality IP DB2 pumps ? Seems the gang here is away's looking for a shop. Might have them post here ??

I think my DB2 needs a refresh too. I called a local place and they said just buy a rebuilt one online. It’s not worth their effort to rebuild mine.
There’s a place in Pensacola on eBay that has them for $600 or so. They have very good feedback ratings. I’ll probably order from them.
I’m going to do compression checks before I consider pulling and replacing the DB.
