I have an m1161 growler and the speedometer quit working. it also seems to be starting out in a higher gear. I've read as many posts as I could find and they all point to the TCU or the speed input sensor. I don't want to just fire the parts cannon at it. Is there a way of testing these components easily?

Man are you in luck. I have not been on here for a good while but I had the same problem. If the fuse popped and it wont shift, no spedo, it is the output speed sensor behind the fluid pump. It is most likely a 4L70E transmission so parts are available. I didn’t know anything about transmissions and never cracked one open until mine had an issue. I have moderate automotive skills, but I did it. You can access most of the bolts with a long..long extension to get it away from the engine. The pic with my knife you can see a really small burr from the casting. Thats what caused the short. Good luck and take your time.

You wouldn't have the part number by chance
