I also found this data plate on the engine. I’ve never seen something like this on MVs. Anyone have any experience with this company? I’m gearing up for winter projects and trying to find out the most info as I can. Also trying to find one of those one wire alternators to fabricate onto this engine. So many on Amazon it’s going to take me some research and time that’s for sure.

Definitely looks like a factory plate on that multi-fuel to me.

This is strange. The FSN: 2320-00-077-1636 listed on your data plate comes up as:

Truck, Tank Water, M50A3, 2320-077-1636, WO/W (Without Winch)

Truck Van Shop, M109A3, (as shown on your data plate) is the FSN: 2320-00-937-4036, (WOW) or 2320-00-077-1637, (W/W)

hmm the ones we had on active duty as soon as 2012 had them riveted on. I had to drill out 4 rivets on one of the plates inside the cab because I was going to put the plug there.

It IS very strange. It’s hard to figure out what I have. Almost feels like a Frankenstein’s monster truck. It’s also why I’ve been asking about TMs. Sometimes when I go to look something up for what it says it is on the plate it doesn’t match up with the tm.

I should have said older equipment, only had screws.

Where did you get this truck? Because the data plate and the tech info in the -10 TM do NOT agree.

I am not a truck guy. So I can not comment on the alternator you showed in post #27.

And Marchplumber's post is correct. A3 Trucks have a CAT engine. So this is an A2 truck if the engine data plate reads Multi Fuel.

Sumpton fishy going on here.

Got it figured out.

We have it wrong. The cover to the TM 9-2320-361-10 has a typo. They mixed the M109 and the M50 FSN's up. so the data plate is good.

The M109A3 is a multifuel truck, and the FSN is correct.

From 1994 until 1999, the M35A3 variant was introduced as part of Extended Service Program. Usually, A3 vehicles have a Caterpillar 3116 Diesel engine and had their manual transmissions replaced with Allison 1545 4-speed automatic transmissions, as well as receiving numerous other improvements with a redesigned frontal appearance. No new A3 standard-transmission vehicles were produced, all vehicles being upgraded from previous configurations during the rebuild process. The exception is some M109A3 shop vans. A small number of M109A3s were upgraded to A4 specifications using the M35A3 upgrade parts and procedures. As-built original Pre A2s are gasoline-powered, A1s use the LDS 427-2 multifuel engine, A2s use the LD/LDT 465-1c multifuel engine, and A3s use the Caterpillar diesel. It is common, however, to find rebuilds of former gas-powered REO and Studebaker models having A1 and A2 multifuel configurations. The original contract for the M35 - Service Life Extension Program was competitive. The last two companies to send vehicles to Aberdeen Proving Ground were AM General, South Bend, IN and Cummins Military Systems, Augusta, GA (AMG was awarded third quarter of 1993).
