Question about synchronizing transfer switches

Specifically the ones used with the MEP-802a and 803a power plants.

1) which TM has a wiring diagram for these units?

2) Are these open or closed transition transfer switches?

Do you have one of these, or are you looking to DIY one?
I was kicking around DIY'ing a synchronized transfer switch. and wanted to understand the level of tech that went into the official units. My Outback and Xantrex inverters use a transfer switch, but they don't make much of an effort to match voltage. They just get it close, match the phase and transfer the load. It doesn't seem to bother the load.

Keep in mind there are at least 4 different styles of "switches" used on the power plant trailers.
A simple transfer switch ( no synchronization at all ) on the older 002/003 units on the m103A trailers.
An analog synchronizer with bulbs to synchronize 2 sets before switching the load ( not for paralleling ) with output lugs seen on the 002/003 and 802/803 power plants, typically on m103/105 trailers.
The one shown above which has output plugs. seen on the newer HMMWV style trailers
The 3 above are for older sets 10Kw and less.
Then there is a synchronizer used on the 804+ sets which also allows you to parallel 2 machines together.
If your project needs any hardware, parts, pictures etc. I think I have all 4 types of switches in my stash.

A tip. The boxes have nice seals and gaskets. But the box is very prone to condensation. Over long time periods, the damage can be impressive.
Yes, the trouble with a well sealed enclosure is what inevitably happens and water gets in.

Everything is as strong as its weakest link. Personally, I think that the synchronization / transfer switches are located in a pretty harsh location (on a fender, out in the weather and road spray, fording through water), all things considered, short of marine applications. There are a variety of water vapor permeable vents and wicking vents to get water and water vapor back out of boxes. E.g.,

Personally, retrofitting a water vapor vent, and a second cover protecting the lights, plugs, and switches wouldn't be all bad in my opinion. Water spray while trailering is pretty hard on any electronics. Ask any trucker, and these boxes in particular have lots of penetrations to increase the risk of water wicking, or leaking in.

All the best,

As a thought... There are several dehumidification products available for gun safes etc. that might fit within a Transfer Switch box. There is one product I've used for other purposes (a bag of silica gel beads) called "Wisedry", the one in the black bag, that can be reused/recharged in a microwave. Of course, you would have to attach it, perhaps using Velcro, & fit it where when it absorbed moisture it wouldn't become conductive itself & short out any components.

This is more or less the Army way. We got the bags of silica from the over pack of other items at our Tech Supply, (Logistics section.) It was considered junk/trash.
