I have an 802a with issues I the motor and generator head are in great shape. Tired of chasing electrical issues with it. Is there a thread that in detail explains how to strip it of all the BS? Forgive my terminology but I just want to turn a key and put out electricity sort of like a light tower generator. Just motor, key start, prob V regulator.

currently no, Its not impossible. You will need a regulator to keep voltage stable. you need something to govern the engine (unless you dont care about frequency drift)

What issues are you having? Has the unit ever worked correctly?
It did and I have a prior thread about it from almost a couple years ago now that the unit has been sitting. How could I tag you in it?

I'd suggest hooking you voltmeter to meter M7 terminal I. The I should be embossed in the case of the meter by the terminal. Connect the meter negative to chassis ground. There is a ground stud on the right corner on the front panel. Start the set and monitor the voltage on that M7 terminal...

@mlaxton, give us the rundown of the current problems?
Not being snarky here, but if you have to ask, you'd be better off fixing the existing system or paying someone to retrofit it for you.
A Mebay DC30D generic generator controller would get you nearly all the funtionality of the MEP-802a panel plus autostart if it was hard wired for a single mode like 120/240V
