Here ya go... PSI washed 3 times (nice being able to hang things in the air)... Coated with bedliner, same stuff I used on the Diablo truck build. Stuff is tuff as nails and isnt like undercoating which leaves a lot of sprayed areas exposed. Whatever was missed (wheel and brake area) will get hit the next time I have it on the lift or when were touching up all of the over spray in the end...

Gotta get on the cab and try to knock that out tonight...

Yep... Using DC sprayed on, I usually thin it about 30% when doing jobs like this so it lays flat rather than getting textured as you dont want mud to stick.

Here is the cab, 3rd time psi washed... Gotta go blow it dry and get it coated tonight... Then undercoat... then I can go home!!!

Tomorrow... Some Final sandblasting, then insualtion, then back on the frame it goes. I wasnt planning on doing a frame off with this truck.. I bought THIS truck becasue the underside was so clean... I just totally lost my temper today trying to pull the engine from the top side. Realisticly... It saved time and made getting the power train out a LOT easier... but opened up the can of worms and a few hundred more $ in materials. It is what it is... at least I know the cab and frame are secure for a LONG TIME!

Ok... Last pics... I'm exhausted....

Underside of the body was sprayed with bed liner and then undercoated... I will hit the firewall and tunnel with insulation tomorrow. Then some wiring I need to do before puting the cab back in place.

I may be setting my self up for disaster with clearance issues. Ive only seen pics of a 6.5 in a 1009 and cant find anyone that has done it. If I have to tear back into the firewall I'm going to be disappointed but thats how it goes. Doing all of this is positive thinking I guess.

Well... Its been one of the F-ING days!!! (and thats being nice about it!!!!!)

We decided to bolt the trans and 6.5 up together to fire the engine over before going any further... I knew it would take a lot of time but it was better than building a truck around a engine that was fubar and finding it out a month from now.

So... I can tell you a LOT of things about 6.2 and 6.5 engines now... Like they are not as "identical" as most of the keyboard cowboys like to make them out to be... With out going into a lot of boring details... If you ever decide to do a swap... make sure you have a LOT of time on your hands as there is not a lot of USEFUL info out there on it.

Also... if your going to be putting a 6.5 in a 08 or 09 with a center turbo... Be prepared to do about 5 inches of firewall clearance work.

So... 8 hours of work setting the engine into the chassis to fire it up and we now know its for sure... fubared! I will say it was kinda interesting watching a 6.5 try and idle while bouncing the chassis sideway across the floor due to the missing and knocking. Man that thing was rough!!!

Kenny I want a refund!!!

Any way... Out came the motor and apart came the motor... The passenger side of the engine has eaten the glow plugs on the 3rd and 4th cylinder... 4 really didn't have any damage... 3... well... ouch!!! I need to mic the cylinder and see how bad it is before I call yeah or neh on it. At a minimum its a piston and rings, valves and precombustion chamber... I still need to pull the other side apart but while popping injectors on the test run it didn't seem to have any issues. Hopefully I have 7 out of 8 brandy new cylinders with only one that I gotta worry about fixing.

On the up side... I'm going to Melbourne this week to pick up a donor 700R4 and TC from Aboonski. I have a 700 that I built about 4 years ago sitting in the loft for a 2WD that never got used... Its built like a brick so I am going to take the $800 and something dollars in parts out of it and swap them into the donor 700 4WD tranny... Trying to fab up the kick down cable should be a hoot but it will get me OD and around not having a vacuum pump on the 6.5 with out going the path of rebuilding a 4L80E ($600-800) plus the controller ($800), plus the torque converter ($350)... Kenny did the numbers on the wheels, trans, gear ratio and I think came up with 1750 RPM at 80 MPH... woohoo at a 100 mph blazer!!!

Now that I am doing body work, paint, interior, electrical, drive train, engine and a on coming tranny and TC and god know what else I'm feeling SLIGHTLY overwhelmed!!! *sigh*

Wait, you blew it up. It ran fine on the way back from JAX. 65 MPH the whole way and I never heard a thing from it. Anyway, if you want to return it you can, I'll return your can of Redbull.

I would like to know how you plan on buttoning up that firewall after cutting it out for turbo..

you will need to space that heater off the fire wall too!!

Hey wow... someone else that is dumb as I am!!! Thanks for showing the pics, add some measurments please!!!

I was planing on cutting a bit more of the wall that that... Basicly follow the current shape of the "dog house", band the edge of the cut out and reweld it back into place... Might box it in... Ether way it's just time... You really need at least 1.5 inches between the manifolds and fire wall, the idea is to leave enough clearance to get a heat sheild 3/8-1/2" off of the firewall... If not your going to be burning up all sorts of stuff. With that in place it will leave about 1" for clearance for movment... Might be easier to build a shield on the exhaust its self... No matter what its one hell of a tight fit.

I already slumped to the idea of cutting out the heater and just going to ducting... Kind of a PITA but i need to see how it all gets there after I wack it up... Fun fun fun!!!

I'm thinking I'll be cutting out a little more around it. I dont have the heat shield but I do have some special wrap for the exhaust and one for the manifold.


I also have some thick matting for the firewall, looks like burlap but its white.

as for it being dumb maybe a little more work but it will leave access for changing out glow plugs, injectors, and pumps.

when we had the pic section on here there was a guy with a m1028 that had a centermount turbo 6.5 his name on here is atxM1028, I sent him a message a long time ago but he never replied..

ohh and if you lay a straight edge on manifold down to the tunnel it falls right where the blue line is in the pics..

Yeah Kenny pointed that truck out to me several weeks ago... I tried emailing him... No reply ether. No worries im sure both builds will get worked out nicely.

OK GUYS.... HERE IS A PARTS LIST I NEED....


STILL in need of cab corners... This has me falling further behind every day.

Need 1008 data plates for the drivers door. My door was off of a 1028.

Need a headlight/turn signal trim ring, drivers side.

Need mounting bolts and spacers for the tail gate support cables.

I could use a gauge panel if anyone has a REALLY nice one.

KICK DOWN LINKAGE AND BRACKETS (TV CABLE PARTS) from a 6.2 civy 700R4 set up

I pulled apart the other side of the top end today... Another plug bit the dust on the drivers side, no cylinder damage though. I'm going to change the #3 #4 pistons on the drivers side and valves on those as well as #4 on the drivers side, gasket kit, pre com chamber and a few other odds and ends... No damage to the turbo's fins... No clue as to what caused all of this... Over temp? Glow plug controller gone haywire? Who knows.... I'm just glad its salvageable!!! hopefully I will get this back in one piece by weeks end and back in the chassis for another run up over the weekend!!!

Otherwise lots of painting small parts, door jambs, window chanels, etc, etc... Trying to get the doors both ready to go back on the cab.
