I'm sure this is a pretty dumb question here, but how come you can't just remove the #2 axle leaving the #3 axle in its stock position for a longer wheel base 2 axle truck. Drive shaft length too long? what other concerns..?

Anyone know an answer to this question? I was wondering the same thing. Could you use a carrier bearing halfway back?

the lenth of the drive shaft for a truck no longer than that one would be easy. look at some of the civi straight trucks with 28' boxs on them. or the 300" wheel base large cars.
I think the harder part would be what to use for a suspension and getting it together straight.

Could you use 5 ton front springs for the rear? How hard would it be to mount some kind of air ride off of a Peterbuilt (or any other semi manufacturer)? I've driven alot of semi's but not worked on many to know the interchangeability.

The reason I'm interested is I want to build one with a single rear axle and a standard flatbed on the back. Not interested in an M105 bed by any stretch. I want to use a fifth wheel from draw tite (civvy pickup version) that I can interchange with a gooseneck ball so I can haul my fifth wheel camper or any other light trailer (don't need to haul semi trailers yet). I don't know if I want standard size duals on the back or one up singles. I might post more on my project in the members rides soon to get more specific input on what I want to do. Hard to ask a question around here without getting the obligatory "CHECK THE DAMN SEARCH BUTTON. NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT THAT ANYMORE." Response. Which, I already have but nothing in there is like what I want to do.
