What to do about GL driveshaft?

So what have you guys done about the bent driveshafts? Can they be repaired? mine doesnt appear to be too bad but does create quite the vibration around 30+. Where are you getting replacements?

You could take it to a driveshaft shop and have them cut out the bent part and weld in new but I'm sure it would be cheaper to find a replacement. I would guess that a shaft off a civilain truck would work but I'm not sure.

theres a junk m1009 at the junkyard near my work. I could see tomorrow if it still has the shaft.

M1009 and M1008 shafts are different.

Have a new one made at a 4x4 shop.

Best to get it repaired or have a new one made. Civilian shafts are scarce and expensive.

I personally don't believe in straightening one. Just have it retubed in my opinion!

I just had a shaft done for my Burb. only part reused was the yoke that goes into the transfer case. Spent $275.

I just had mine done last week I to fell victom to the gov forklift. Got mine retubed, balanced and painted, and out the door for 152.00

I bought 2 GL trucks with bent shifts, could't tell when I inspected them, had to replace both shafts from junk yards for about $220 each.

Isn't the 1008 shaft quite a bit more heavy duty than its civi counterpart.

I think I know someone that has one. I had gotten him a spare for a 1008 he was picking up and turned out GL hadn't bent the one on the truck.

Any driveshaft or better machine shop can repair your shaft. I had a 1989 Ford F250 that failed in the universal joint bearings and beat the shaft ends up good, so we cut them off and put 1-1/2 ton dumptruck joints on her for much less then buying new. Last I saw the truck (2007) she had over 325,000 miles, probably 175,000 after the repairs.

go to a speed shop, or a boneyard, you can find one of the center tubes for cheap, measure yours

50 bucks tops, and add a couple new u-joints

I just had mine retubed/lengthened with a thicker tube and it was $155.

Ok, called a driveshaft place in Hartford and they said no big deal. They will retube it for 180 bucks. Thanks guys!

No idea what the shipping is yet but the shaft was $100. He said he's willing to part with it if you still want me to pursue it.
