12.5 20 michelin tires

I have a question about the 12.5 by 20 michelin tires, my brother oldgrunt has these for his truck, first question, they are 40 inches tall, my 1100-20 are 42 inches tall, the 12.5 is the width, why would these be shorter than my 1100-20?, also, these tires have a max pressure of 55psi, mine are higher than that, can not remember what it is.

The 12.5 or its equivalent metric size 335/80R20s is a .../80 ratio. That means the sidewall height, measured from bead to thread is 80% of nominal total width being 12.5" wide, mounted. (kind of low profile)
The 11.00-20 as well as the 11.00R20 (and all of the .00 sizes) are /100 which theoretically is sidewall = width.

Actually sizes vary a lot and a general rule is difficult to establish.
9.00-20s should be 9” wide and 38” in diameter but are more like 9.5”x 40.5”. 11.00-20s should be not more than 11.5”x 42” but normally are taller.
