This minimum bid stuff is stupid. I see tons of stuff I'd like to bid on and would gladly pay more than scrap prices for but not the $150 min. GL wants. Why let it go to the big scrap pile when it doesnt sell, and bring pennies when it could bring $20, $30, $40 per lot. I just dont get it?

I do not think GL cares about any of us, it is bottom line, and if they could, well they would bone us all for a profit.....

I think they do a good service, but are greedy

Uh oh, what happen to the GL ads again? Did they bug out?

When did that happen I never even noticed. I hate to see this site lose ad. dollars. I started this thread in hopes enough people would speak up and say the same thing and show GL how much they are losing by placing a $150 min on some stuff.

I would imagine they can look at their auction history and tell what is/isn't selling well. If they keep the format, they are not losing money. .02!

As far as complaints about GL go, this has gotta be the least critical.

"Bone us all for a profit?" I'm not a fan of GL by any stretch of the imagination, but puh-leeze. They're a freakin' business. OF COURSE THE GOAL IS PROFIT. If you want to live in a socialist country, move to North Korea and have a happy life without capitalism.

I think the $150 minimum bid is for EUC items which require additional man hours to process thus the extra cost.

Yes, but people are also supposed to operate with a sense of morality. Just saying the words "profit", "free market" capitalism", etc, do not excuse bad behavior.

To be perfectly honest, I do not see how the employees of a lot of companies sleep at night.

Im sure there not losing money. I would think they stand to make much more if they let someone bid 20-50 bucks for a transmission or engine in a container then let it go into a bulk scrap pile where that individual item is only gonna amount to a few pennies or maybe even a few dollars by weight.

Who says companies/people are supposed to operate with a sense of morality? You? Me? Who defines that "morality?" Remember, "morality," and "good" and "bad" are all relative terms, and they're all very much up for debate.

It's all relative. They're selling something. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Don't agree with their business practices? Don't give them your business. It's not like they're selling you something that you NEED, they're selling you something that you WANT, like pretty much every other company, and you have the option of simply NOT buying it, or NOT buying it from them.

How do they sleep at night? Simple. Same as employees of any profit seeking enterprise.

So what are the "bad" things that GL does? We know that they don't give accurate descriptions on a lot of lots, and the photos are subpar to show true condition of merchandise. Poor practice, but hey, you have the option of buying trucks (or anything else) second hand so there's no gamble- I personally see this practice and choose not to buy trucks through GL, although I suppose I might buy if I could preview.

Hm, what else. They set minimum bids. Now there's a crime against humanity. At some point it's not worth their effort to deal with a $20 lot. Makes perfect sense to me. If they can pile up enough of those $20 lots to make a $200 lot, or a $2000 lot, it makes a lot more sense for them to go through the trouble of dealing with it.

It's not like we're talking about illegal practices. We're talking about the way that a private company chooses to do business, which is that private company's right and privledge. Because THAT is what America stands for. Not for "morality" or anything else, America stands for FREEDOM. Freedom to choose to do what you please, so long as it doesn't infringe on anybody else's rights.

I agree totaly, but if you think about their volume of things, the scrap pile is an acceptable form of income. I don't like it, but I don't like insurance companys either.

It was only a few years ago that if an item did not sell on a auction it sometimes went to a negotiated contract. I was offered some items that did not sell at auction for a fixed price by a GL person. It used to happen I do not know if it does any more however. Now that they have the retail business going can items go to that store if they do not sell at auction? One thing for sure is they are in it for the money. And could care less about the wants and opinions of the little people.

Id love to be able to go out to the Ft Riley site and just ask them "so what didnt sell this week?"

It does not make business sense to me. I can sell a pile of scrap for $1000 or 25 lots at an average of $50 that would be $1250. Yeah some may go for $10 and some $125. But with shipping some theings I might pay $100 maybe even $150 but when it starts at $150 and that is the most I will pay it makes it not worth my time to watch. Take notes GL. If it will go for over $150 then it will. But why waste time. It seems GL goes for volume if so go for volume. If not then step up the customer service and product descriptions! Pick your business.

I just had registered and bought my first 2 trucks last week from GL. Everything else has been private party. Friend finally wanted to get a deuce and being a little bit more budget minded decided to register with GL.

Won 2 trucks last week, hard tops, bows, troop seats, heaters, and 1 had bows. paid $940 for EACH. Figured got hell of a deal. I paid 3x that for mine from private party.

Got my invoice friday morning. Talked with GL and said i would wire transfer my money monday morning. this was friday at 11am. Mereidith told me no problem.

I log in later on friday about 10pm to add some more stuff that i was interested in and figured GL is not that bad. WELL I CANT LOG IN! IM SUSPENDED! WTF

I called GL this morning, talk to another lady. SUPPOSIVELY my number is linked to another ID that has been used before and defaulted so I cant buy anything cause of the other account suspended. They cant tell me nothing else but sorry.

NOW i have just got in this hobby last year, have lived at this addy and number for last 5 years. NEVER bought or registered with GL before, nothing.

My question is what would of happened if i never wanted to get something else or anything on GL and would of went and wired my money this morning? I had my invoice printed and ETC. so i had no need to go log back in. Heck even had my EUC started.

I dont get it. but for some reason i cant buy off GL now cause my number was used before. So guess i cant buy from GL no more.

Im all for private business, and if thats how they want to operate then so-be-it. It just seams to me that they would make more money if they put a little effort into customer service and maybe listening to what the customer wants. I think the American way as Hobie put it is for the "company" owners to make alot of money as fast as you can and then shut down and move on, screw your customers and screw the people you employed to help make you that money.

Thats exactly what Im talking about.
