wouldn't it be easier to paint a civy truck like a CUCV? Add the bumpers and grille guard and you are done.

I have an M715 with a fuel injected Big Block Chevy, TH-400, Power steering and power brakes. I consider it an MV still. Still has a folding shield, canvas top, OD paint, blackout lights and stars on the doors.

That is what we in the milsurp firearms world refer to as a "bubba job". A sporterised military firearm is one that someone thought would be "better" after it was modified but what they have really done was taken an example of a historicaly correct piece of military equipment and turned it into something they could go down to WallyWorld and buy off the shelf. CUCVs are a dime a dozen right now but when they dry up the price will go up and SOMEDAY someone will wish you had not done that to it. Look at the WWII jeeps, the prices are high in part due to the people who modified the krap out of them because they were "just an old piece of military junk".

I dont see it that way pawnshop. how is it a bubba job ? Are you implying i am some redneck who is going to put booger welds on the truck and has no idea what i am doing ? if it was a duce and a half or a ww2 jeep that would be a diff story. i dont concider it junk. its just a good plat form to build the truck i want and in cali you have to work your away around smog and thats what i am doing. and fires arms are not trucks.

Wow, guess my Multifuel powered M108 is a bubba job. All you folks with bobbed deuces, Bubbas. Would air assist steering constitute a Bubba job? We should rename the site to Bubba Soldiers! LOL Sorry Pawnshop, I had to!
Is a pink CUCV a Bubba Job?

"Bubba" refers to any civilian modification to a military piece (not the person doing it). If you use military parts (multifuel engine, air assist) that is acceptable, those mods are something that a bored motorpool MIGHT do. Bobbed Deuces? Yep, BUBBA! Cucvfreak, what IS the difference between a CUCV and a MB? They are around cheap right now, but in two years they will be $6K and unavailable. 1903 rifles were $5 a piece in the 60s, try to fine one for less than $500 now that has not been sporterised, a sporterised 1903 brings $100.

If you start with something scavenged/wrecked/messed up already and your mods will get it back on the road and out of the scrapyard then that is acceptable to me.

I realize this is a debate between the MVPA ("P" for preservation) and the hot rodders and ultimately it's your truck to do whatever you want with it, you can set it on fire if you like, but I don't have to like it:), and your question was "do you still consider it a mv?" and MY answer is "no", that's just MY opinion and I am not calling you wrong for doing it, just don't do it to mine or tell me I am a tard for not doing it to mine.

Pinky WAS done by the military, but it is no longer pink...

The M715 never really made it into the Army ranks because of the engine that you couldn't get more than 20 miles from the motorpool.

Instead of taking M715s to Vietnam the Army rebuilt M37s.

My dad bought 2 Springfields and an Enfield in the late ‘40s and chopped all the stocks down. He cut 2” off of the 03’s barrel. They were GREAT sports rifles!

I have the Enfield with the wood and guard ears on the front sight cut down and can drive tacks open sights at 100 yds.

I like my BUBBA!

In my opinion it is a military vehicle no mater what you do to it. It still originated from a mv so it is a mv just not stock because it is modified. Though I would use the stock 65.2 but then agene you may have used the stock 230cid in my m37 but it is my truck and I used a 318 as you ma decide to use something else in your cucv

It is what it started out life as.
Changing over to a 12 volt electrical system and a big-block chevy doesn't make it a corvette anymore than changing a vehicle's year by changing engines... when you're all done, it's still a CUCV.
