Article from Wheels & Tracks issue #14, Unknown year of publication, thought everyone would enjoy it..
Came from friend at the American Truck Historical Society. That group mostly deals with commercial truck history but also has military models on occasion..great forums..

Most of these pics I have seen somewhere before. The M26 Pacific was a WWII wrecker, some of the others prototyps for the sucsessors. The Diamond T 970 was used in many variations as a wrecker, also with the M1 heavy wrecker equipment.

THere are a couple dragon wagons out in the back 40 at Eglin sitting there just rusting away along with some Sherman tank chassis recovery vehicles! Sad thing is nobody will be able to get one, liberal bastards

Keep in mind that the M26 Dragon Wagon wasn't as much of a true wrecker as described. It has winches on the back that would drag a sherman tank up on its trailer, but it had no boom like the traditional wrecker. We have a M74 that I can get some pictures of if you want.

M26 Pacifics would configure as a wrecker by extending the A-frame, which in the photo above you can see lying down over the fifth wheel. Nice Photo Dlittle... good looking competant driver!
