Sorry guys, i know this has been hashed to death, and i've been sifting through old posts to answer my question but i haven't found an answer that hasn't had a dispute of sorts. What i need is the correct part number and correct place to order from to get the correct green carc paint. I'm having a buddy who owns a body shop to smooth my 1008 and re-shoot it for me. The camo patterns will come about later. Also, we don't know the thinning rate of the carc. I have read that distilled water is used to thin. THANKS, GB.

I was wondering about this myself actually. Just last night I got a new black mirror from LMC truck and some 383 green spray paint from Rapco. The paint went on smooth and looks good but does not totally match the color and texture of my truck. I will try to take a picture later but someone may be able to tell me what I'm going wrong here.

Carc comes in about a few different types. I just did a post on this and went into it in detail before.

Single component VOC based water cure carc is reduced with synthetic enamel reducer and the directions only say that it can be reduced but does not give ratios. I use 4 or 5 to one depending.

There is also a two component VOC based.

The newest stuff is water based and uses two components. This is the stuff that can be reduced with water.

So basically, you need to find out what carc you are going to get before anyone can answer your question.

I use the single component VOC based water cure carc myself. There are different suppliers for the Carc and most I have heard of get it from Shermin Williams industrial coatings stores. Look for the link to their catalog. I just posted last week information on where to find the Shermin Williams internal part numbers needed to order it from them. Look in the tech manuals section for the carc data sheet. IIRC this one only applies to the VOC based single component water cure Carc. You will have to check the Shermin Williams industrial coatings catalog to get the part number for the other types of Carc.

You did not use carc. You used paint made to the same color as the military specifications but the paint is not the same as carc. Even given that, Carc fades quickly in the sun light. A new part will be noticeably darker than older carc even if you use correct carc to paint the mirror.

I'm fine with that and after looking at the finish I like ti may wind up painting the whole truck like that.

The Gillepsie CARC substitute sold by Rapco and others looks awful, too green and way to glossy. You can spot it a mile away and even in pictures. It is not rocket science to match colors, I wish the mfgr would get it right.
