hi, being a m-35 person, i only know the m-1009 from a distance. but i do know of most of it's civilian counter parts weaknesses. so, is it possible to find one with NO rust around the edges of things??

Yes you can. 2 of the 3 that I have now have/ had almost no rust to speak of. Between southern vehicles and Ziebarting they have been pretty good rust wise,. The 3rd one I have had quite a bit of rust which was cut out and new panels were welded in. I replaced the inner fender wells and radiator support. Now shes 99% rust free.

There are rust free CUCV's out there. My M1028A3 is the most rust free CUCV i've ever seen. Even places like the underside of bed and cab are like new. They are getting harder to find though.

My 1009 from Barstow is completely rust free, although I have a parts 1009 from Iowa that has holes the size of my fist in the floors and no rocker panels on either side from rust. Even the rear bed floor is rotten.

Look in Colorado. They have not been able to use salt for over 35 years in the winter and my replacement body tub came from there. Really nice condition.
I have not replaced it yet but will soon as mine went to Desert Storm and soaked up the salt air.

I'll try checking out where my truck came from/84 1008...no rust at all, only 2 dents (small), but mine could be a "fluke".

Shoot i just got my m1009 from Barstow, Ca, and i still found the rust spot on the tail gate, and in the door frames parallel to the seat belt box. So Barstow still produces rust.

My M1009 was from Fort Bliss, Texas. It was a personal, daily driver of a CSM. After that, it went to the Border Patrol in Marfa, TX. It sat on the border at night with a "Flir Unit" sticking out of the roof. I lucked out, Texas from day one and has no rust!

They use a chemical instead, like here in north idaho.....the name of it escapes me right now

Salt is very hard on the roads and the chemical is very hard on our cars/paint......we do have good roads though!

Mine is rust free, everytime I hit a pot hole the rust falls off.

I have heard Pennsylvania is trying or going to try beet juice on the roads. The liquid they are using now is horrible on vehicles. I have rusty vehicles I drive for the winter and park the nice ones.
