Jcknife,
what year engine did your truck have? Also, my FDC was bypassed yours?

Good to hear you made it back home safe.
I know the truck is from 1972 and a plate on the dash said it was refurbed in 1987. Where do I find out the year of the engine, though?

And I hate to admit it, but I'm not sure what an FDC is.

Fuel Density Compensator.

I think most of the trucks that have been refurbished have them bypassed.

Most of the trucks that have been refurbished, and had the FDC bypassed, will have a big yellow decal on the fuel filter canister above the IP. It says something about using diesel only because the compensator has been bypassed.

Most people use them as multi fuels anyway. The way the combustion chamber is made, they will burn pretty much anything except aviation grade gasoline.

Do a search on "Fuel Density Compensator" and you'll see a bunch of posts on it.

Glad it worked out for you JC. Sounds like you got the best deal in that sale...so how high would have you gone if I kept bidding against you;-)
Hey did you get out allright? I felt bad after I left, like I could have done more to be helpful. Unfortunately the genny I brought would not start, so i didn't have the ability to use the compressor either.

Mine does have some surface rust on the front bumper and one fender. I'll work on it, it'll be fun.

Oh, and the tachometer jumps like a kid on a trampoline. Gotta figure that out.

That use to be a fairly common problem when everything had cable drive speedo and tachs. Most of the time it's caused by the cable binding in the sleeve, dirt and old lube. We used to disconnect both ends of the cable and flush it with carb cleaner or brake cleaned and then run some tool oil/light weight oil through the cable. Most of the time it would correct the bouncing needle problem and squeaks.

Yeah they both rode home great. The one with the tarp is actually in really good shape. The dropside needs some work including an axle seal and brake work. Tach doesn't work at all on that truck so you are a step ahead of me. And she starts hard so I think she is due for some new fuel filters. I had to drive the one that started right up across the ditch so I could use it to jump start the second truck....6x6 works:p

Ha! That's awesome. Well glad to hear it all went well. I would love to lend a hand when you get into replacing axle seals and such. Great opportunity to learn on your truck. :-D Seriously though, let me know!

Good to hear you both got your trucks home. Wish I would have seen you at Frankfort JCKnife. I was too busy getting those M105's loaded up. Didn't leave out of there until around 2:20PM.

Ah, that was you? Sorry I missed you. Yeah those trailers went too high for me but I've got my ammo trailer waiting for me up in Ohio once I get plates on the Deuce.

I ran into technical difficulty with Fayette county on the temp tag as well.... it was easily solved by requesting a bill of sale from gl on the trucks.

No...just send an email with your vin # and request a bill of sale. They can fax it right to the town clerk and that is what Fayette county needed to issue the temp tags.
