Are M911's with singles under the limit for wide loads? I want one and I'm trying to figure out how to sell it to the wife. I need a reason. Maybe a recovery tow vehicle? Any comments or suggestions are helpful.

Its easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. Just buy it, park it next to your deuce and pretend its always been there. :-D

Edit: as far as width? I have no idea

Well,I don't wanna kill your idea but just a few facts about M911s......

The run 1400 X 24 tires, next to un attainable except by Uncle Sam,and then they are about $1000 ea for DOT approved ones,so finding bigger tires is gonna be a problem.

They suffer from the same problems as the previous/ and later models of tank transporters, slow top speed and unbelieveable low fuel economy(4 mpg empty).

They are appealing to house movers, logging companys, and other big businesses, which means they usually command top dollar($40,000 isn't uncommon).

Since they have low production numbers, most dealers don't stock parts for em reguarly,so special order parts are sometimes the norm(once again big $$$$$).

If you can't find wheels and tires to get it down to legal DOT width, you'll have to have a permit to drive it anywhere, and you'll have to follow specific routes.

If you ever want a trailer for it,you only have about 3 or 4 options if you keep the stock 5th wheel plate since it has an oversize king pin(3 1/2 in vs the standard commercial 2 in).

All that said, good luck finding tires or rims to fit and get it less than 103 in wide, lots of us M123 owners have been trying for a while with not much success,it's easier to pay the $100 per year for a blanket permit and be done with it.

You'd be alot happier with an M915/M916/M920. Cheaper, easy to find parts for, standard OTR tires and wheels, and plenty available lately.

The M915 series trucks get better fuel mileage and are just as big. The M916/M920 trucks have the larger kingpin needed to haul trailers like the M747. The M915 can easily be converted, or if you plan on hauling standard civy trailers it's set up for that.

Just my 2cents

That's up to you if you want the front axle powered or not. The 916's always go a lot higher, but still less than an M911 or M920. The 916 also has a winch on the back which is nice for the M870 trailer. If your going to be on the road all the time I'd go with the 915, but if you plan to pull heavy loads a distance off-road then a 916 is a good choice. 915's still do decent off-road depending on the situation.

Don't give up hope on the M911 too easy, they are sweet trucks. IIRC the truck is legal width with the outer duals removed (or potentially singled out). I haven't ever checked the hub to wheel clearance, but there is a good possibility of running 16R20 tires instead of 14R24. Afterall, myself and several others run 16R20 tires instead of 11R24 on the M916-M920 series. I have a sweet M911 I need to sell, just haven't gotten around to it.

I just like the look of the M911. I think it would be very cool with an S250 shelter box on the back and the winches moved back. I don't know if that would be possible, but I thought the way "Soni" did his 916 was cool.
