What does your engine sound like

Well according to my calculations my truck should be just slightly lower geared than stock. It now has 36's and 4.10's (possibly 4.56's the owner didnt know). It shifts at 25 and then again at 35. However changing from 3.08's and 35's where 3rd started at 45 the motor sounds really loud and running fast at 50. Is this what the stock m1009's sound like? Also are those shift points relatively close to a m1009 or do they sound like a m1008?

Mine sounds like a wash machine full of ball pein hammers with metal handles when cold, then just noisy when warm. Shifts at about 25 and 40.

Stock M1009s run pretty easily at 65 to 70.

Stock M1008s run pretty easily at 50 to 55.

On 32" rubber at 2200 rpm the M1009 runs 68 mph the M1008 runs 46 mph.

On 36" rubber at 2200 rpm the speeds are roughly 76 and 51.

A 4.10 axle with 36" rubber at 2200 would be roughly 57 mph.

Guys will tell you that they run their M1009s all day at 80 mph and their M1008s at 65 mph with no trouble. That is a lot of rpm for the 6.2.

It takes 2600 to run 80 with 3.08 gears on 32" tires and 3150 to run 65 with 4.56s on 32" rubber. That is smoking for an engine designed to run 1800 to 2200 rpm. Not that they will not do it, the life span has to be shortened and the economy thrown out the window. Glen

My 1008 sounds like rocks in a concrete mixer at startup and smooths out to barely have that "diesel" sound when warm, I need to put a tach in mine, the speed limit on most of the roads I drive is 55 and with 285's it sounds pretty wound up already.....so much so that I dont pass the idiots like I used to. Sometimes to "guess" if i'm in a good rpm range i'll goose it for a while and back off to where it purrs a little happier (no speedo):p

My truck screams like It needs another gear.

My stock M1008 is in 3rd at 15 mph unless I floor it then it will go to about 30mph before it shifts hard in to 2nd and when it does you better not have hot coffee near you or it will be all over you and the back window.I run it 60 mph all the time but 65 mph is the max I will do with the 285 tires on it.

The m1010 with 37 inch hummer tires wil do 70 to 75 mph

I just replaced 1 head (new) and had the other resurfaced and valves redone. all new gaskets and replaced the intake manifold with one from a 6.2 HMM. Purchased from member gimpyrob.

Now its much smother and quieter, before almost could not hold a conversation.
