No EUC; these are considered tractors. I don't think they will issue a title on them so road stability isn't going to be an issue. You would have a hard time getting a Mog to do 50 mph.

I wish I bid more; I always wanted one of these and never would have dreamed they would sell so cheap. These bring well near 20K when they turn up on Ebay every now and again. Sounds like the Unimog business is going to be good to you.

So when are you going to start a thread about modding one into a DOKA cab and putting quad steer on it? :D

man alive.... i knew i should have bid higher.... congrats on the 13 they should resale really well for you. I wanted a really strange project and they dont get much odder than a SEE.

I like the work you do on the trucks i see them on ebay all the time. Its a good way for new guys to catch green fever without having to go through the headache of GL

The SEE is just a camo unimog/case 406. Knock the loader and backhoe off and you have a 406 diesel mog. Even if they are cannibalized you should have enough units to part out the worst and build the rest.

Makes you wonder when you have an "auction system" that refuses to release the winning bid amounts per lot. Leaves the possibility of potential questionable practices.

We purchase surplus from 6 separate military auction systems. GL is the only one that will not release what the winning bid amount was. Leaves it open for questions, interpretation.

At least in Germany I know that I bid $4000 on lot 100. At the end of the auction I can look up and see that lot 100 went for $4200, hence I did not bid high enough. When GL simply says "outbid" there is no way to verify that to be the case.

Anyways, congratulations on the purchase.

Cheers,

Scott Ingham

I checked with

TODD TOOHEY
Property Disposal Specialist
DRMS-J362 Sales Office

on titles for these SEEs. He said in part

"We can issue a DOT title but not sure that is going to do the customer any
good as titles for construction equipment are different from DOT. If the
customer wants the same type of title as a normal vehicle then we can
provide that at their request....."

From my experience, depending on your location you may have to cross several hurdles to register them as a truck instead of a tractor. If you use them as construction equipment you can get a 'special equipment' plate. My 406 plate cost $16 and is good for 10 years. Pretty restrictive in that I can't carry a load or passengers. Of course the SEE is not designed to carry a load, just its implements.

They are cool. I just wonder how roadworthy they are. I would be nervous driving them at 50 MPH with that loader and backhoe! My brother was an Army Engineer. His unit used them. He liked them but said they were frustrating because they did everything and nothing well. He also said they were a mainenance nightmare. Still, I'd love to own. Any idea what you might ask for them?
I've driven them quite a bit, if you're going over 30-35 mph, the pucker factor rises exponentially.

My advice is, if you need to go fast or far, put it on a trailer !

Anybody have access to one for measurements? I know the information plates say 96" width but is that for the body or to the outside edges of the mirrors? Basically looking to see if you fold the mirrors in you can get it under 8' wide.

Flu419

As a former Army EOD (bomb disposal) tech I was also the unit SEE operator. The FLU419 is a great piece of kit that could do a number of jobs adequately but not nearly as good as a "real" backhoe. For EOD it was more than sufficient to dig small fighting positions, burn pits and shot holes. The hydraulic tools were also quite handy, both the pavement breaker and the chain saw. As for road speed, I drove one from Ft McNAir in Wash DC to Ft AP Hill and back for a field exercise. I traveled I-95 with all the traffic and pot holes. You can get up to 55mph but it is a rush. The Sp4 ridding shot gun was sea sick and scarred sh...less. Don't forget to put in the bucket safety locks. If you have never PMCSed one it takes an experienced guy 2 plus hours with air powered grease gun. As for 20 and 30 level maintenance it has alot of complex systems and three separate PTO's. I spent many hours on these rigs, the most fun is teaching new guys how to bring up the backhoe. Note the USMC version is different and there is also a HMMH version that was mostly used by 55B Ammo techs (BB stackers) I too thought one would be a great POMV, thats why I kept my entire set of TMs. Good luck to all who get one. [thumbzup] cheers

The 96" is to the outside of the outriggers of the backhoe, the truck is way less. You can go here and download all the books on the SEE. Rocky Mountain Moggers - Unimog Links If I had more time I would add them to the SS resource section, or maybey someone else could. I believe the operators book is already on this site. Any way the transport guide will have all the dims on it.

Thanks CCE.

But it turns out to be what I was afraid of. Trying to see if one would fit in a shipping container but while the inside dimensions of the container are fine the door opening is about 6" too narrow.
