I find it very cool that your neighbors don't really mind you setting up in the Cul de Sac to work on your truck. Why can't I have neighbors like you?

Please take a few pictures if you can (assuming hands aren't too greasy) - getting ready to pull my front hubs for a PM and considering doing the boot and seal while I am in there. Good luck with the job :D

finally, i can post some photo's just got done with dinner.

Ok, so know i feel like a front axle expert. Used the step x step it helped out a lot.

Problems
1. axle had a groove in it we think could have caused the leak
2. broke a bolt off in the hub and to remove. Will replace tomorrow.
3. ran out of time but i will fil it up this week.

Good news
1. brake pad look good but had gear oil all over. Going to have to replace.
2. He wants to come back and help me do the entire brake system, new pads, new hoses, and rebuild the cylinders. Should be fun.

It was not real hard to do, just a lot of heavy lifting.

I would buy the locking washer, i bought the seal kit with boots from OD Iron. There yellow but are supposed to be the best.

Also, it took three of us to put the boots on. 6 hands made it easy. This is not a one man operation.

Use a jack to remove the hub and lower it to the ground it's heavy. We used 10 cans of break cleaner. I spent most of the time cleaning parts.

The inner seal was tough to get out and in fact i hand to show him pictures to prove that i would come out with the slide hammer.

Send me a pm if you have any question i will give you my #. Plan 8 hours though to complete. We could do it in 3 now though, learning curve.

Good job! I really liked the new silicon boot.

I did have to fabricate a slide hammer to remove the seal. But if one is doing both wheels it is much easier knocking it out from the opposite side.

Great pictures too. Thanks

agreed, there is a story behind the slide hammer. I tried to convince him that we could use a pipe which i brought from work to knock it out from the other side. That said he wanted to do it one side at a time so...could not change his mind.......went to harbor frieght and bought a slide hammer. I wish he would have let me buy it for him. To be honest i think he really wanted one and this was a great excuse.
