Hello again guys i need to ask a question about my th400

frist when the fuild gets old does it turn orange is color

and secound does it start to smell bad ?? and how hard is it 2 replace the filter in the pan??:deadhorse:

What does it smell like? If it smells burnt you might have trouble on your hands. The filter is easy to replace once you've got the pan off.

well it doest smell burnt it smells odd i cant put my finger on it ,wish i could send you the smell over the internet but i cant . could it be from setting a long time? i just got it from GL havent change the fuilds let just oil so tranney is next on my list



1 more thing how meny quarts of dexron 2 does it take after you empty the pan? i know you can't get it all out of the tranny ( cooler lines ect)?

I'd change it for sure. When you drop the pan, be sure to look for any little metal flakes in the fluid. If you see that, start saving for a rebuild.

Orange definately doesn't sound good. It sounds like someone poured something other than Dexron in there.

Would watery ATF turn orange???

Water makes it kind of milky. Orange seems like something added that shouldn't have been. What color is your coolant? If it is orange, start saving for a new radiator.

Buy 4 gallons of transmission fluid. Once you do the pan pull and filter swap, pour in the first gallon, fire it up, put in in every gear and then check the fluid level. Add and repeat until it is right. Whatever you don't use can be used the next time you service the truck.
