Ok, I know I need a different back spacing so the rims will clear the tierod end. Does ANYONE have any experience with doing this? It will be going on my M1031 contact truck. Will I need a lift? I am trying to do this as cheap as possiable. Any input would be great!

Thanks for the help!

Hi
Well if you are going to rum the 36" HMMWV tires lust a little fender trimming is needed. Now if you have the utility box I am not sure if there is enough room and you probably cant trim much off if any. Now I am not talking about cutting all the way around the fender just the bottom corners need to be opened up. Usually once you get the tires and wheels on the truck you can then judge from there on what to trim. If your are Going to wheel the truck or run the 37" tires I would go with a 4" lift kit. As for the rims check out a company called Great Lake Offroad Great Lake Offroad, LLC. They have complete rims recentered to what ever you need for I think $100.

Hope this helps you out.

I was thinking about a 4" lift kit. New springs up front and blocks in the rear (so I can still use my overload springs). I figure that should give me enough clearance. I DO NOT want to trim anything. My only enemy right now is getting the "extra money" together. :???:

If you don't want to trim any... I'd say 4" will not be enough. It will rub the rear corners of the front wheel wells when flexed and turned. Pushing the axle forward an inch should help some and may let you fit 36", but I don't think so. 37" no way.

I done this to my 86 M1028A2 back in 1995 The springs went to 6" lift & steering block.
Front wheel hubs for an dully & changed Rear axle to an dully rear Dana 70HD.
But the correct axle back spacing is 8"inch to do every thing you need to do as for rear axle you can but dully spacer
4 inch to off set to get total of 8 inch back spacing.
Also I never had to cut any fenders out I don't like that at all look like Poo.
Also I built an set 12.4 X 16 titan AG 1 tires for some fun in the sand there were 40 In tall 12. 4 wide 16 fun went off road.

Are you sure you wany to put a 4" lift under a M1031 contact truck? I've got one also that came fulley stocked, and it's pretty top heavy.

Yes, that is my new concern. I was thinking about it last night and I still haven't put in the oxy tank that goes over the gen. I guess I am going to have to scrap the idea and save it for a pickup when I come across one (and a fist full of money). :-x
