My new M1009 Birthday present.....

Hi all,

I just got this M1009 CUCV Chevy Military Blazer as a birthday present to myself this past Friday June 4th.

So far I have been happy with it, and after replacing the two batteries,
it runs great, so I use it as my daily driver.

Gets great gas mileage too, I topped off the tank Friday June 4th after picking it up, and I just got gas again yesterday (Friday June 18th), and that was
after 2 solid weeks of commuting, running errands, etc.

But I would like to know if there is anyone else in the Atlanta, Ga. area that shares this hobby, and owns military vehicles?

Perhaps we can compare notes, help each other out with issues that may come up with them, (maintenance, insurance, driving, etc. )

By the way, is there a reputable site online, where I can purchase replacement parts, at a fair price?

I need to replace the blackout light mounted in the grill right next to the drivers side headlight, as well as the blackout lights/lenses for the front
and rear bumpers.
I would also like to attatch those angled radio antenna mounts that bolt onto the sides of the body on both the passenger and drivers side.

Also, the body on the interior is painted an army green, if I want to have the outside painted the same color, or the color it should be, what color code/s
do I tell the body/paint shop to use? 383 green??

Have a good day everyone, God bless America.

Jay

P.s. Here is a photo I took after I got it home.
What do ya'all think?

congrats on the new ride! I take it your trying to restore it back to original specs since you want the blackout light pieces and to make it camo again. There great trucks to work on and drive. I can't really share tips with ya being how far away I am so all I'll say is look at the TM's whenever somethings wrong. They can be a lifesaver. Good luck on your new M1009 :driver:

Hello,

Yes, this one was located in Canton, until I acquired it.
It starts, runs, and drives great.

I plan on restoring it to original condition, but I am in no hurry.
Each part will be done as I can afford it.

Do you already own any military vehicles?

Have a good day,

Jay

Hello,

Thanks for the congrats.
Yes, I plan to restore it to original condition, as I can afford it.
I have a couple of leads on where I can blackout lights, so no problem there.
I can see I will enjoy working on this, as I have already solved a couple of issues with it.
Also, I followed a link here on SS, and I now have downloaded the
OM & TM's for it, and starting to study them.

Thank you for the wish of good luck too, I know I will need it.

But it starts, runs, and drives great.

Have a good day,

Jay

Jay,

I remember when I bought my first M1009 also from North Georgia (Rockmart). I can assure you that there are a lot of MV owners in GA. I will be moving back there myself when I through with my tour at FT Lewis, WA. As stated above be sure to check out the GA Rally thread, even if your not attending it will be a good place to find Georgia members.

Hello,

Thank you for the welcome, the information, and the links, they have been very helpful so far.
I also plan to attend that rally with it in October, I just hope nothing gets in my way to prevent me from going (job, life, insufficient funds, etc...)

Have a good day,

Jay

Jay...nope - I'm still looking around to get my first one. I'm thinking a CUCV would be a good choice for me too, but I've looked a Deuces also.

This M1009 looked good - I'm sure you'll have fun with it!!! Take your time, do things on your schedule and just enjoy it!

I plan to go the the GA rally this year myself.

Hello,

Glad you will be attending the rally here in Ga, in October.
I plan to attend, barring some sort of conflict (family, work, life, etc..)

I plan on taking my time to restore mine, mostly replacing, and repairing any issues that is has now, and/or in the future.

But I do plan to CARC it in 383 green when I can afford it.
Also, I plan to get all the blacklights working, I got the two in the back bumper to work so far. Now I just got to get the two in the front bumper and grill to work.

The M1009 seems to have been a good choice for me, I like it and plan to keep it.
And since I got it, now my GF wants an MV (maybe a jeep), and as of yesterday (Wednesday June 23rd, 2010) my boss at work wants me too,
he saw mine, wanted a ride, so I gave him a ride, then let him drive it,
now he wants one. LOL

Hmmm, I wonder who I can get hooked on this hobby next. hehehe

Have a good night,

Jay

P.s. Any time you want to come down to Smyrna, and check out my M1009,
let me know, you are welcome to pay a visit.
