Ok was crusing down the road late one night last week.. down shifted from 5th to 4th and its a no go... CRAP.. ok coast to stop and try 1st.. crunch ..crunch same for reverse... so we shut it down put in 2nd and make it home that way.. after a 2am rescue of a CUCV from a corn field( Peckerwoods) well today I drop the trans.. and this is what I find..
Bummer...sorry about the picture quality.. looks as if the mounting point for one of the fingers is broken.. right in the cast...
any way.. is the 4 finger the old style or new?
what will I likely get now when I go look for new?
3 finger or 4?
tag on trans says it waS OVERHAULD IN 03

thanks for any tips and advice any might have to offer....
I think im just going to replace the pressure plate...there was no other issues ..
J.P.

Go the extra mile and replace your rear main seal, while your that close(only $50 more). You'll regret it, if you don't.

I'm surprised, with all the recent PP failures, there isn't a panic going on here, in the forums!

Poof if your clutch has 3 fingers replace it with 3 if it has 4 replace it with 4. if you buy a clutch kit it does not matter, but if you just doing the plate match replace it.

O and I forgot to say... why they bust off the fingers is because of too much travel of the throw out bearing and its over extending. You wnat to make sure its adjust so that the clutch JUST disingauges. there is no need to push it in to the crankshaft.

Poof,
The 4 finger clutch is the older style. Its the standard for the deuces. The reason for the finger breaks because sometimes the drivers ride the clutch alot. it wears out the bearing as well. replace the rear main seal while you have it apart. it will save you heartache in the long run. when you get a new clutch kit, you can recieve either, pending on what they have in stock.

Hey John, Are you gonna need that alignment tool to get things lined up when you are going back together. Did the guys up at MSI in Madison have a clutch kit for you?
Boy, that chocolate vanilla swirl ice cream cone was sure good today it was even better getting it with the bobbed deuce. :driver:

Please let me know I would like to help a fellow member out. And don't believe it when he says it was because he was helping a couple peckerwoods.

you have to get a puller. Autozone rents the kit. THERE A BITCH!! I had to have mine custom made at Eggaman. But you can get them from surplus suppliers for 17 bucks.
