So about two weeks ago my drivers side alt died. I was like shucks! but I found a M1008 on CL that a guy was parting out. for 25 bucks I got both alternators a new air filter housing and a nice spare rear drive shaft. so i took the better of the two alts and put it on my truck and it works the volt meter is in the green again!
I drive around for a few days as happy as can be and on my way home from a movie the drivers side gen light comes on and I'm like oh the new 25 dollar alt is dead. well I drive home in the dark and park the truck. Few days later I take a spare alt to the generator shop to have it re built and 100 bucks later I have a nice new alt.
I get home and pop the hood and the belt is missing on the drivers side alt. I'm like WTF so I go buy new belts(San Jose has one NAPA and I had never been before and they had every thing i needed) for the power steering pump and both alts and I put them all on and the cheap 25 dollar alt works !!! yay I spent 100 bucks I did not need to if I just opened the hood before I took the alt in. well I now have a nice spare and leaned a good lesson.. don't assume its a dead alt before you open the hood.

aua:grin:

No where in the TMs, will you read, "Go directly to the auto parts store, do not open the hood".

Seriously, the TMs have great step by step troubleshooting procedures for the CUCV alternators.

Dude it's a funny story if you can't enjoy it and not laugh then don't post. I didusethe tm when the alt died the first time. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anthng at all. If you notice I did learn my lession and I don't really need you acting like my parents teacher superisor or what ever giving me a hard time after the fact.

DUDE, Your reading comprehension skills suck!

If you notice my second line starts with "seriously", that means in the first statement, I was joking/kidding around!

Nothing says lack of respect, like calling someone DUDE.

btw, I did enjoy it and I did laugh.( I can relate Dude) :cookoo:

I have, and if I did not like Jeff Bridges as an actor, I would have never made it through that flick!

1st I have been there and done that and learned the same lesion you did.
2nd I read Dog heads post and I knew it was a joke right away. Don’t read tones in to words.
3rd “dude” started as an insult and still is to some people.
You need to get some thicker skin if you are going to make posts about mistakes because you WILL be teased about it and it will all be in good fun learn to laugh and you will go far.

i did the same thing....almost .....last week. The Gen2 light came on (after i just got through replacing both alts the week before) and i was like "crap, i screwed up somewhere or the alt was bad) turns out i just threw a belt like you did. the only difference was I did crack the hood to see what was going on before getting another alt.

and Doghead has been around for a minute or two i havent seen him jump on anyone yet.... without cause anyway. besides who hasnt done something similar while working on a military vehicle.

no mater how you look at it, you still got off cheaper than bringing it to someone to fix.

and got a spare, (can never have enough)
