Hello,
does anybody knows if the output housings of the sprag transfer case is interchangeable with the airshift type. I have a sprag type in my truck and want to put an airshift type in, but the airshift TC I got has a few oil leaks and my sprag one is dry, so i thought of only changing the output housings.

Do a search using the words "sprag AND housing" by author "gringeltaube" and I suspect you will re richly rewarded (i.e. there is exactly a description of what's necessary).

thanks for the info. Today i figured out myself that it isn't so easy. I turned the input shafts of the TCs and the sprag type has a lower ratio to the front output than to the rear. The airshift type is 1:1
I think i will install the whole airshift tC after changing the seals. [thumbzup]

Yes, I believe there is something along the lines of an 8% difference in output speeds if I remember Gringeltaube's post correctly.

In your part of the world, are air shifts readily available?

Correct, and the math is easy to do from this old diagram showing the number of teeth for each gear: R-output is 22T:33T while F-output is only 21T:34T.
22 div.33, times 34, div.21 = 1.0794. That is, for 1 complete revolution of the front propeller shaft the rear has to turn 1.08 revs., or in other words, the rears have to slip 8% combined, to allow for the front axle to start getting traction.

The airshift TC does not have that 21/34 gear set, it connects the front output directly to the rear via that air actuated dog-clutch.
