105 trailer bed fit on m915A1?

Im just throwing some ideas in my head around and was wondering if any one had thought of or looked into or even know if a 105 trailer bed would fit on the back of a m915A1 truck? It seems to me that with all the people that bobb a truck and make that bed fit it would be a possibility, it dosent need to go straight to the back of the tractor but just not look too rediculus. also do you need a CDL for the M915A1?

any thing I should really worry about with that possible fit? how complicated is taking that hitch off? mabie even is it worth all that trouble?

A M915A1 has air brakes, almost all states require a CDL for for that reason. Check your local laws, im sure alot of people will give you ansewers but if someone in PA that knows the law could help you but id go straight to the DMV and ask so your ansewers are dead on.

Yes you can single a M915 out. Theres a couple threads and guys on SS that have done it if you searched you will find out how and all the details. It looks good.

P.S. Id pick a better truck to bob that a road truck thats not a 4x4 or 6x6. But if your never going to take it off the pavement then I guess your ok but if you didnt want the CDL route and wanted to take it in the dirt then a M35A2 or somthing along those lines would be alot easier to do. Bob Dueces are getting cheaper and cheaper.

There is a little less than 12' of frame behind the cab, so a M35 bed will go on easy. The 5th wheel unbolts.

For that matter unbolt the fifth wheel and get a take off M35 cargo bed. Then you don't have to bob it and you have 12X8 feet of cargo bed instead of 9X7 and a wheel well that will look out of place. I bet no ones done that before to a M915.

And you should need a CDL due to the full airbrake system and a GVW over 26,000 lbs. There are some exceptions to those rules but like said previously I would check with the DMV.

That is awesome I like this idea of the 35 bed on the back didt think it was that big. Now to poney up enough money for one of those. Anyways thanks

ok now what about smaller tires on an over the road truck? everyone seems to put bigger tires on but I am just wondering what the negatives are about a smaller tire and rim? also are there other rims and tires out there that will work underneeth a bigger truck like these?

The M915's already run the smaller tires (compared to the 916 and 920.)
It is about clearing the brake drum.
But, you can run a 22.5 low profile tire if you what a shorter overall tire (I think that it will be a little shorter then stock, but not totally sure on that point.)

ah ok the brake drum is the underlying factor. ok thanks hammer, like the truck

definantly looking to sit lower, any other sugestions would be great.

The other problem is that the 915 is a 55 MPH truck if I understand correctly. Most guys run taller tires to get more road speed. If you go smaller you might make it into a 50 MPH truck.

I just sold my newest M915 and I can tell you that it is a 63 MPH truck when tached all the way out.....mine must have been turned up because it was turning 2350 RPM. Since I drove it a grand total of about 65 miles I don't know how the fuel milage would have been.
I was already considering taller single tires when I sold her down the river.
The idea of mounting a deuce bed on a M915 crossed my mind when I had my first one.
I have a dropside bed that I thought would be a great addition. My idea was to mount the bed a little higher and make it removable so the 5th wheel could stay in place.
Since I have some big hydrolic cylinders kicking around I also thought about making it a dumper.

That's right. I remember seeing that thread where you brought Jessica home. She really was a runner. I thought most of the 400 Cummins BCII's were governed at 2200 RPM and therefore 55-58 MPH trucks. I don't know. I can't back that up. That's just what I heard.;)
