Anti-Aircraft SEARCHLIGHTS came up in another thread recently, and by total coincidence I had a client family come into the Funeral Home that I work at last week who happens to have FOUR searchlights and they are FOR SALE :!:

In the course of conversation our Deuce came up and he mentioned that he also had some Army surplus equipment.... SEARCHLIGHTS :D

These lights were formerly used in his business of promoting other businesses and events through SEARCHLIGHT BEACON DISPLAYS and ROOFTOP BALLOONS, etc. He's an older gentleman and is selling off his assests.

I have not yet seen these lights in person, but have recieved some printed pics of them (Will post ePics as soon as they are available.) Each Searchlight is trailer mounted and they are in varying conditions.

I'll update this thread as information comes available.... PM if you have specific questions or have a REAL interest in his contact information.

Thanks for the GREAT question PB... I just KNEW somebody was going to ask about that.

Welllllll..... fasten your seat belts SEARCHLIGHT fans - and I'll tell ya the story....

My job is not that of a Funeral Director, but a Pre-Arrangment Specialist - - - I'm the "advance guy" for the production of a "celebration of life" for "you or a loved one." Since pre-planning funerals is usually a little stressful, but hardly ever extreme, I have found it best to keep things a bit pleasant rather than mournful. Often, we laugh and I get to hear many good family stories. I build friendships and enjoy what I do.

Last week, a couple came into the funeral home (They NEVER wake up one morning and say, "It's a beautiful day, let's go plan our funerals.") and explained that her sister who is now in a nursing home needed some arrangements made. They explained that they were selling her house and furniture etc, and wanted to "spend down" the funds so that she could still qualify for Medicaid.

Well, since the conversation was on the light side - no one was dying anytime soon - I took the opportunity to ask: "Will you be selling any antiques, firearms, or old military stuff ? I have an old Army Deuce and a Half." The answer was YES, some old furniture and china etc. but no guns, or GI things. Nothing of interest to me.

Then, the gentleman said, "But I have some old Army Searchlights if you're interested!"
"Cool!" I replied, "Do you mean the BIG Aircraft Spotter's Lights?"
"Yup. Used 'em to promote businesses."
And from there, we talked about the Deuce and about his Lights.

They have since settled the sister's affairs here and gone home. I recieved an envelope in the mail yesterday with the print pic's in it.

And THAT, boys and girls is how you jump from funeral planning to MV's in a heartbeat:!:[thumbzup]:driver:

Sounds like he has some 60" carbon arc's if there trailer mounted.
Looking forward to some pictures and info. It would be cool if he has the remote control set up for them. I have heard there are very few of the remote's around.
There a bit bigger than the VSS-1 above. I have the little brother the VSS-3 that I mount up on my TOW base plate on my HMMWV.

Super Cool light sabers.

Now one of those would be beotching at the GA Rally......imagine a huge piller of light emmanating from the woods of middle GA.

The "Bubba" UFO reports would be worth the price of admission.

How about it PB......can CAMO step up and save them from a fate worse than death (molding away in Texas).

The VSS-1 and VSS-3 were used primarily on M60 tanks.
The VSS-3 draws 60amps at 24 volts to start the arc.
If you have a more modern MV you could run one from single or duel pin Aux jack.

I hope somebody here ends up with these babies.

I am still awaiting work back from the searchlight owner as to his preferred method of contact, exact descriptions and prices. I will relay this as i get it, and will PM replies to those who have sent PM's.

In the meantime.....

Does anyone know of a source for the Carbon Rods used to make the Arc :?: I have found a "recipe" for making them, but not yet a reliable source. (Thought I had a local hord of NOS Rods, but that hasn't panned out.)
