I like your avatar, and thanks,

different question but I would like to think this through befor I go and try to pick it up, what filters will I need and how many quarts of oil and tranny fluid should I take if I wanted to change them out?

I realize this truck was made the same year I was born so it might be a little different then the newer trucks but do these have the easy plug to drain the oil and tranny? or do you have to drop the pan?

Congrats on your purchase. From the looks of it, your truck will not need any service to be able to travel. The Allison and Cummins do not have to have the pan dropped for oil service. Before you pick it up, make sure you get your Class A license or CDL with air brake endorsement, your commercial insurance policy at $500K limits, your USDOT registration, and don't forget your medical card with drug testing consortium membership.

It's all gonna depend on your state laws and how you license it. I am betting regardless you will have to have a CDL before YOU drive it.

maybe not, id take a look at PA DMV and DOT sites. i know that the vehicle being more than 25 years old would qualify for either classic or antique registration. given the restrictions from the little i read id suggest classic.

i had a conversation with a fellow member a while back and i though he said PA exempts CDL requirements for vehicles classed as such.

anyway read up and make some calls. personally id suggest you take your friend with the heavy truck experience anyway, i dont imagine its a good idea to just jump in and drive it out after only readying a few technical manuals, thats a big truck.

Don't they have air brakes? (I am not sure) but, I thought that was a federal requirement for a CDL? (I don't mess with anything over 2.5 ton.)

don't be surprised if you get a little bit of run around, DMV is a starting point and inevitably the ending point but read and print everything, every law and code, your told either way. youll prob need to explain it over and over, your a strange person asking strange questions on unfamiliar grounds to them.

in new york at least there is no requirement for a cdl to operate a vehicle equipped with air brakes, only a requirement for an endorsement for those that already require a cdl otherwise. cdl is a requirement based solely on gvwr exceeding 26,001lbs or number of passengers. additionally hazardous materials and something about trailer vehicle combined weight. so your free to drive a pick up truck with air brakes.

Congratulations on your 915 purchase!!

Definetly check your state laws before driving.

BTW,your fluid capacities are as follows,

11 gallons for the engine
5 gallons or so for the transmission

engine filter#s are

oil-LF670 and LF777( Fleetguard full flow and bypass)
fuel- I use FS 1000 on mine or FS 1212(both Fleetguard)
Transmission external filter BT359( Baldwin)

Good luck!!

WHYME

thanks your insite is great, I was digging around on there (DMV) site and it looks like that is how it will be, I can drive it but cannot exceed 26k which is no problem I have a deuce bed (from POPACOM) that I am going to put on it and just want to run parades with it, the dmv clearly states that if you class a vehicle as a classic you cannot drive it more then once a week or it has to be for a function/ parade etc.... so that is not a problem either, it dosen't look at all as complicated as it could be but the call tomorrow will tell.

yeah I was watching from 4:40 and finally the bids started to go up and expected them to clime much more then they did, heck last week they sold like 10 or more and I bid on them and put a much higher bottom line pice in and got out bid on them right off the bat, those I couldn't touch at all and this weeks trucks look just as good if not better some of them and none of them really impressed me with how much they sold for.
