It would be a good idea to contact the seller and find out if he has done any service on it at all . At a minimum take extra fuel filters , but the problem with this whole trip is there are basic things to carry in all dueces on long road trips ,extra fluids ,belts , filters ect. many of these parts are not availible at the local autozone . And you have less than one day to prepare . If some thing breaks you won't find parts along the way .

I am going tomorrow. Of course, I plan on practicing for awhile on side roads. My trip back is all highway. I plan on driving 45-50 mph. That is feasible on the highway, right?

THANY YOU Rosco! Here is the link to the ebay ad: 1971 M35A2C AMERICAN GENERAL 2 1/2 TON DUECE AND HALF - eBay (item 180621971464 end time Feb-10-11 12:00:10 PST) I admit that I was putting a lot of faith in the man that I am buying it from. Since he is regularly selling deuces, when he says that everything is in good driving condition, I assumed it was. I will have to wear ear plugs?
For this guy to be a regular seller of deuces, he doesn't know much about them either.

American General sells insurance. They didn't build military vehicles. He also list the truck available to Canadian and Mexican bidders. :-?

Thank you all for info. I will see what I can round up today as far as parts. Where do you suggest buying parts? I know these are ignorant question but at least I can ask from the privacy of my computer. I guess worst case senario: If the truck breaks down, I will have to let the truck sit somewhere and come back with parts later.

I notice your friends' dad is a heavy truck mechanic.
He should know what tools to take and what to inspect on a truck like this, so you do have mechanic support. As others have stated, download the operators manual and read up on it. JATONKA's M35 TM download page The first manual listed on jatonkas' website is from PS magazine and covers a lot of basics. Also, take very seriously advise about the hoses and belts.

I called my insurance co. They said to just bring by ins. card from my other vehicles with me as they would cover any newly purchased vehicles for 30 days until I can get the title transferred. I do not see anyone in chat. ??

NAPA usually has everything I need however some of the more one off parts will have to be gathered from surplus outfits.

You can't walk into most part stores and ask for a M35A2C wheel cylinder.

Fuel and oil filters, fluids, belts, possible a compatible air filter should be available at NAPA. I wouldn't hold my breath on the air filter...

This is no worse than two idiots driving to Tx to drive some deuces back to Wi. Take some fuel filters, 3511 and 3512 are the napa numbers. The alt and belt numbers escape me right now. I will PM my cell # in case you have trouble on the road.
