deuce smokes a lot from time to time

My m35a2 usually in the mornings I can tell it has lots more power and smokes a lot other times not so much. i have been runnin 100% wmo in it. can any one tell me why the truck would have have all that power and smoke like that today and then tomorrow its normal for what it is?

Your not conveying your question very well. With Fuel other than 100% diesel you have different btu ratings, or it could be partially blocked filters, the HH going out, an injector not working right, etc.

o im sorry all i have run in it for the past 6 months is wmo and it dont seem like a blocked filter. it runs fine and has good power most of the time just i have noticed here latly that from time to time it has a lot more power and a lot more black smoke. i have not turned the fuel up and the ip still has every thing sealed up with the lil wire. i am just worried about burnin it up with all the smoke.

Nah, the smoke is from the wmo. If you are worried(even if your not) its a good idea to install a pyrometer so you know what your exhaust gas temp is.

i thought that was from the wmo but i do plan on installin a pyrometer mainly because i just like gauges, i just didnt figure that wmo would have that much more power than diesel. I drive the truck every day to work(40 mile round trip), its not the best ride but it is the cheapest since the fuel is free

i dont think so but i really have no idea. I see no sticker sayin it is, and there is a fuel line or two runnin to the top of the engine from the ip to two cylinder things that i have no idea what they are.

yes well...

when you run on obtained wmo you will get a variety of oils from a variety of engine oil changes..So..some has high cetain rating , some not so high etc.

and of course its all mixed up (nearly!)..so as it setles in "layers" well..it burns in layers...and if it it was not cleaned properly there will be damage to the I.P. wich will cause the surgeing effect and smoke you are experiencing.

sum up logically..variety of fuel and cleanliness ..= variety of performance and smoke.

daily fuel temperature and or Faulty and worn pumps can cause this condition together with the F.D.C.

well i get all the oil from the ford dealership i work at, but i understand that all that oil will not be the same. it was just wierd to me i figure if a had a bad pump or something then i would be losin power, but i donno im still learnin. all i no is when i give it the go pedal it somokes like my duramax with it is turned on its race tune. maybe the fdc is goin and puttin in to much of the oil.

That is your manifold pre-heater.

I took that preheater gizmo off of mine. There is a plunger kinda thing that developed a leak and dripped fuel directly onto the turbo, I'm thinking thats a bad thing. Starts just fine without it.

i may take mine off if it gives me any problems. all i no is my truck loves oil more than diesel.

If the FDC goes, you get fuel in your crank case.

Have you checked the air filter?????

If you are burning 100% WMO you need all the air you can get.

I would add a few gallons of gasoline per tank to thin the WMO out and help it blend better.

When it runs good one day and not so good the next, has there been a difference in outside air temperatures? You guys have been getting blasted with cold weather off and on. Also, try running a tank of straight diesel and see if the problem goes away.

UMO will smoke a little more than diesel, but not much. If you have lots of smoke and power, the egts are up and the engine is getting more fuel.

I also run 100% oil. If I am smoking a lot and excess power, the filters are plugging up. Usually about 100 miles after the smoke, it will start starving for fuel. Changing the fuel filters clears everything up for 6-12 months.

I would flush it out with a full tank of diesel, and see if it clears up before I went to tampering with it any. You can always go back to wmo later, and it would probably be good to get a clean engine flush with fresh new and clean fuel.

yes i have noticed a big difference with the air temp. when it was real cold i cut it down with gas. I will change the filters, just to be on the safe side. why would the filter plugging up give it more power. i no it happins that way a lot i just dont understand why.
