Can you tell the difference by looking at a 6.2 diesel cucv engine from a 6.5 diesel HMMWV engine if there are no such markings available?

They seem to look the same to me via all the pictures i have seen thus far.

Here are the photos:

The photo shows a 6.2 or 6.5 diesel engine?

Second Question:

What are the specs of the 6.2 and 6.5 diesel engine?

Green horn here......:lost:
Thanks in Advanced.:)

Up by the timing chain on the left side of water pump, it will say 6.2 blah blah or 6.5 blah blah... what is wierd is I have 6.2 with 6.5 heads engine code indicates that it was one of the last 6.2 made.. which has 6.5 block and heads just only bored to 6.2

Block numbers will identify the actual engine.
Nope. Some 6.2s have the same block casting # as 6.5s. The only way to tell by looking on the outside is if it has "6.2" or "6.5" in the casting, on top near the intake manifold.

Model year 1982 to 1991 6.2s are casting # 14022660. They use a two-piece rear main seal. The 1982 block is red and all the later are black. Some people believe the first year, 1982 black blocks are stronger then the later due to a higher nickel content. True or not, who knows?

Model years 1992-1993 6.2s and 6.5s are # 10149599. They use a one-piece rear main seal.

1994 and up there were several 6.5 only blocks. Most were not as durable as the 1992-1993s used for 6.2s and 6.5s. But, the last 6.5 blocks used smaller bolts on the outside of the main bearing caps in an effort to stop the blocks from cracking. 12 mm down to 10 MM as I recall.

Cylinder head numbers:

1990-1993 -10137567 6.2s
1982 only - 14028901 6.2
1983-1991 - 14057299
1988 - 1991 - 14077162
1992-1995 10137567- 6.2 and 6.5

Yes, "506" is a later 6.5 only block.
