Been picking away at getting it running the last couple days... and hit it hard today.
Yesterday: Topped off the batteries that came with it with distilled water and tried to charge... one held 10.3 V the other wouldn't go over 11.8... went and bought 2 new type 31's and put them on a charger over night.
Checked the oil... looked new and clean... will get it running and then change.
Today, Did the doghead starter relay mod, then put the batteries in (cleaned terminals and grounding lug) found one bat terminal wire frayed and getting hot... will replace later.
Drained all coolant, siphoned out of over flow tank, and refilled
Cut the fuel line near the muffler and used a siphon to start it drain down an extra piece of fuel line.... got about 7 gallons out and found all the fuel to be bright and clear, so we stuffed an air gun up to the hose, blew air up to stop the siphon and installed the electric fuel pump and pre filter.
Ran the wires for the electric pump, but not sure where to splice in power. would like to pull power from an circuit only on with the ignition in run.
Please advise! Looking hard at the pink wire that runs to the IP.
Still need to remove and bypass mech fuel pump and install blanking plate... anyone know where to get a female fitting to 3/8 barb to bypass the mech fuel pump? At a hardware store?
We had to post duty, so we put on the new fuel filter, used the siphon to pull fuel from the tank through the prefilter and up through the electric pump... stripped the wires and put it on the hot bus and blead the system... then pulled the wire off the 12v hot bus...
She fired right up on the first start, then sputtered and died, then didn't catch on the second attempted, then sputterd and fired up and stayed running on the third..... we took her for one spin around the block and then parked her infront of the garage for the rest of the work...hopefully tomorrow if no one needs our help tonight!
Do the front springs look too flat and worn out to you?
