Hello All

I drove my new 1967 M109A3 home about three weeks ago.
I sent in the SF97 form. I got an email that the VIN number I supplied is not correct.
It is a 1967 Kaiser M109A3. What is a typical VIN and where is it found?

The GL rep onsite told me the serial number in the description was the engine number.

This may invalidate my insurance.

I hope this is clear. I do not usually drink and type.

thank you
Rodger

Look on the drivers side frame rail. It might be hidden under several layers of paint.

I am having a NM get together on Aug 27th, you are more than welcome to come up to Aztec and check out some other MV's.

Is the VIN six numbers long, starting with a 22- ?
Hope to see you in Aztec

thanks
Rodger

NO the VIN is 9 numbers long. For a '67 it should start with 01 or 02 then 32 then - or space then 5 numbers.

The frist two number are the lot designator. 01 was early '67 and 02 was later in '67

The next two numbers are the type of truck 32 is for a M109A3 but the truck could have been rebuilt.

The last 5 numbers are the sequence number, I.E. frist truck of the lot would be 10001 the next 10002 as the trucks came off the assmbly line.

Hope this helps.

jasonjc, the info is correct, as long as in the depot maintainance they cared for the correct frame for the correct body. To my experiance they did not do.
So Roger, lets hear what you really did find.

AM General M109A3

I have a similar problem identifying the year of manufacture for my newly aquired M109A3. I bought it thru GL but they don't know the year, nor do any of the people I talked to at AM Gerneral. The VIN number is 0532-10849 and the USA tab on the dash is 04B67271. The stock # is 2320-00-077-1636 which just confirms that it is a M109A3 WOW. I read other theads that talked about other manufacturers putting ID numbers on the drivers side frame rail, driver's door or door post, and even inside the glove box (from AM General). All of these came up negative. I need to determine the year of manufacture to fill out the SF-97 for for getting a title. Can anyone steer me towards an answer?

This is my first post. I currently own a 1951 M37 (just completing a frameup restoration), a 1968 M101A1 trailer and now the M109A3. I'm a member of the Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado (MVCC).

With ours we checked all the axle, etc. tags and came up w/ a lot of `72 year dates on parts that looked orig.

We didn't have a date stamp on the data plate either.

For 1968-1972 the last 2 number of the USA number are the year of the truck. Yours is a 1971. And the maker of it should be AM General.

Yes, it is an AM General model and I also found a 71 stamped in the rear axle housing so I guess I'll go with 1971. I bought this thru GL at Ft. Carson, CO and by the painted ID numbers, it went thru the Colorado Nat'l Guard and Camp George West in Golden, CO in October 2009. The last bumper numbers were CONG 947E right front and E 909 right rear. Left front and left rear are illegible but should be the same as the others. The DRMO Vehicle Inspection Sheet was for Colorado Springs. There was lots of paperwork for removal of radium 226 gauges. Can't be too careful with those!!

Thsanks for the information guys.

Today I was trying to arrange for insurance coverage for my M109A3, but there is apparently a problem with the VIN number. I am pretty sure of the numbers, but not the year, so when the lady looked it up as a 1971, her system would not recognize the number. We tried going all the way back to 1966 up to about 1976, but no dice.

The data plate indicates it was made by Jeep Corporation (with the old AMC logo). Could it be AM General, and could that cause any problems with the VIN if they don't match? Or could it be that the truck was rebuilt in the 80's and maybe that is the date used?

I'm getting a little antsy because I am supposed to pick it up Thursday, Sept. 15.

It will NOT be in "her system" as any thing. It's ex-military.

What is the vin on the frame? Being Jeep Corporation it IS a '71 or older.

I really wish you guys would follow simple procedures for getting the info. Simply get the VIN off the frame along with any info off the cab plate and submit it to CARNAC in the 2011 Vin thread and let him do his magic! He usually comes up with all the info you need to register your truck. THE WISE AND POWERFUL CARNAC ...

She has some way of verifying a valid VIN number, I would assume she is tied into some master database. I went through the same process before with my other Deuce.

Did that last night, GE! I am sure I am not first in line, and I would imagine he has other things to take care of in addition to offering this service.
