M920/916/915 Air Conditioner

I live in Texas. It is hot here. I have seen pictures of M920's with armored glass and doors that have air conditioners on top. Anyone know what type of air conditioners they are using?

There was a M915 at the MVPA convention in Evansville a few years ago with added air conditioner.

The owner said it was a standard kit that fit the 400 Cummins and mounted under the dash.

Should be an easy addition.

OK, I am even more confused now. Looks like there are to many options for someone like me to comprehend. When I started looking at the RED DOT catalog, I got the impression they were stand-alone, self contained units, especially the Hummer version, but R Racing is talking about a compressor bracket (on the engine?). Also, after looking at the RED DOT site with the picture of a unit on the back of a Mummer, I finally realized how big it was. I then went and looked at the visionaire site, and they had all kinds of options, including ones run off of hydraulics. I was hoping for something similar to the one mounted on top in the pic I attached. Can someone help me narrow down my options?

I have a Red Dot AC unit on my 915. Straight forward install, mount the rooftop unit (had to cut a hole in the top of the cab) and mount the compressor to the engine. I used it the other day and it was 101 or so outside and the temp inside the truck was 76-78.

A roof top mount even though it looks really nice wasn't going to work well for me . the main reason is I live in the sticks and my M920 is so tall I'm constantly removing large tree branches with my horns and roof. I couldn't imagine what a 2 inch branch poking a hole in my new ac so I mounted mine down like this.

Do you have a Red Dot Model or part number? How hard was the mounting of the compressor? How do lines run from compressor to roof top?

That thing doesn't look that big when it is on an M920. Do you have some more pics of the part of the unit that would provide the air inside the cab?

Y'all don't forget the 915/916/920's alternator can only produce like 10 amps to charge the second set of batteries. Not enough for the HMMWV A/C. Jim, how did you work around this? Trucks looking better every day!

I have a Red Dot R-6100 with a metal cover.

The compressor was easy to mount since there are mounts available for BC Cummins. The AC lines run down the back of the cab and underneath into the engine compartment.

The picture I attached on my first post of this thread was one I found on the internet.
As far as the alternator goes, good question. Looks like R Racing isn't having any issues though, unless he has a different alternator. I assume his A/C is running off of 24V.

Awe NDT , I took a new 200 amp unit and had it reworked without the transformer so it internally does 70 amp 24v and 130 amp 12V . then we use a battery equilizer to balance things out . I'll take pic's of that install shortly. It probably in the long run been cheaper to do a new 12V unit .But I have been collecting parts here and there along the way . The 24v ac uses 20 amps

EXACTLY....the batteries take all the load and have plenty of reserve with 4 batteries. To prove my point I only use two batteries in my truck and don't have any issues with my Red Dot system, four batteries would double the available amp reserve so what are you guys worried about.
