Stupid goof- oil overfil

I screwed up and put too much oil in my 6.2.
How much is too much? I am guessing I put in about a half quart too much.
Yes I did do a search but nothing came up.

It's probably not a huge problem, but why chance it? I have a Pella oil extractor that I would use to set the correct level by pulling oil from the dipstick tube.. Next choice, drop the drain plug briefly. These engine are cheap as diesels go, but oil is cheaper even if you waste some.

How certain are you of the total oil volume installed, how much exactly 7.5 Qts?
What does the dipstick look like, what does it show in relation to the full line?

i dont think its going to kill anything but if you want drain out some from the oil pan.

I accidently over filled my 6.2 before no problems, you should be ok if only a half qt.

Just pull the oil filter and drain it a couple of times. Easy to do and the engine should be well lubed from being run recently. Glen

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I know plenty of CUCV's that are a bit leaky as far as engines are concerned (mine included) I wouldn't be surprised if by your next oil change the half quart you added has leaked out.

I have basically overfilled every 6.2 I have owned by half a quart (I know about the 7.5 quart thing but its more convenient to dump in the full 8 ...... I have never had a problem doing this and also mentioned it to a master tech who worked at the GM Linden, NJ facility for many years before it closed..... His response was that you would have to substantially overfill the crankcase (as in 2 quarts or more) before running into trouble and that my 1/2 quart overfill would do nothing...............

No Problem, the Army knew you were going to do that and they were thinking ahead! They put a conveniently placed valve under the hood to let you empty out that extra 1/2 quart neatly into a container.

It's cleverly disguised and called an "oil sampling valve" or something, but now you know what it's really there for

not every cucv had them. Out of my 3 i have had 0 with them. Actually I think i may have only seen one of them in person.

Worrying about a 1/2 extra quart of oil in a diesel engine with 8 quart capacity or more is pointless. Don't bother, it will not do anything. If you overfilled it by say 3 quarts, then some foaming could occur, but I seriously doubt you would have a problem even then.

I believe I have a oil sampling valve on my 86 m1008. It's located by the coolant overflow reservoir.
