CAT HEUI issues, failures and fixes

I don't know how the pump being larger would make it better. The C9 Cat engines with HEUI did have a recall because one of the bearings in the pump was failing. With regards to axial piston pumps restriction on the case drain or suction can cause shoe lift which destroys the pump. The second...

60K spitting out oil from dipstick

The John Deere engines are not intended to be checked while running. Engines that are will have a two sided dipstick with running and stopped levels. I do have a 4045 engine in my fleet that pushes oil out of the dipstick if you pull it while running. There is nothing wrong with that engine. Do...

Bringing non-runner M1165A1 REV back to life!

Even without glow plugs the engine should smooth out within a few seconds if you're above 40°F. That engine is making some unhappy sounds but they don't sound like bearings but there is something seriously wrong with the engine. Is it blowing bubbles in the cooling system? Have you done an oil...

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

I forget if the tube is 1/8" or 3mm. Everything else is metric so it must be, right? 3mm will fit a little tighter.

    Operations during volcanic ash fall

Look into Donaldson Power Core air filters. There is nothing close in terms of performance and capacity. They have housing available with turbine separators to drop out the bulk of the dust.

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

The aftermarket return lines are the incorrect hose material for the application. They don't tolerate the temperature and you'll get cracks in the ends of the tube. You need to use Viton tubing. If you use Viton tubing you don't actually need the clamps. The OEM lines were Viton...

How to wire a power panel right to my mep 803a generator

The most important condition is that there is only one connection between ground and the neutral. It doesn't matter much where this connection occurs, in the panel or generator enclosure. If you're wiring to your house lift the bond in the generator. If your using as a portable only, leave the...

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

If you disconnect the strap between the solenoid and starter you can energize the solenoid without cranking the engine to verify engagement.

    Spring hanger

The lower bushing is clearly toast. The upper bushing is likely the same.

    Your batteries tested fine.

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

You should have a Min Hi function with the hold feature. Set it for min and it will record the minimum voltage while hold is active.

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

Measuring the battery voltage without a load is absolutely meaningless. Usually you use the starter as the load. Since yours is kicking out you don't have much time. Does your meter have a hole function? You can use the hold to capture the lowest voltage. If it dips much below 19 volts your...

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

This picture is from the internet. The GM flex plates tend to break around the crankshaft flange. I've had one that was 100% separated but still was totally driveable other than an odd clicking sound.

GM engines are known for breaking flex plates.
