    Welding on the Humvee body.

What's the repair? body is rather thin. TIG is the best process to weld thin aluminum. Roof is thick and can be done with a MIG or TIG 4043 is a good choice of filler material on the HMMWV body With aluminum it's all in the prep. you need clean, bare metal for a good weld. Aluminum weld is...

    Batteries.... ?

volts are volts and amps are amps. I don't really care if my electrons are wrapped in red, yellow, or blue plastic. for $59 you can buy a group 65 battery at walmart. Do two group 65 fit the plastic tray/holddown in the hmmwv? no Do two group 65 fit in the space? yes. can you cut some 2x4 to...

    Humvee 400 Amp voltage regulator

Interesting. I always though of the 400amp unit as insanity from a vehicle perspective. But as a contingency option for home during an outage it's kinda attractive. Anybody done that? What does it take? Is it as simple as using the slave port connected to an ac inverter or does it require...

    Long Cold Start Cranking

It's normal for the colder it is, the harder to start. 40 degrees isn't that cold. below 40 isn't very specific. My first thought would be to test your glow plugs. Even at 70 degrees, bad glow plugs will result in a rough/long/alarming start.

    Humvee Run Flat tyres removal

I've used the engine hoist method many times and have found it to be quick/easy/safe. spray a little dish soapy water to help it slide. here's a youtube (not mine)

Conversion to Electric Lift Pump on HMMWV?

I replaced a mechanical pump in a CJ7 with electric and in hindsight it was a mistake I would never repeat. It's just trading one failure point(pump) with several(pump, power path, ground path, switch) have you inspected your tank/pickup for debris that could be killing your pump diaphragms...

Latest M1167 purchase. Too far gone? Or should I rebuild.

With that many pricey major parts missing you're going to have more in to acquiring those bits then it would cost you to buy another truck either complete or as parts. In your shoes I would consider buying a cheaper 2 door troop truck with the bits you need and putting them together. To me the...

Is this a bad Power Steering Pump?

You're on the right track here. Solve all your leaks first before you trust your efforts are bleeding the air out. If fluid can escape air can enter. I had similar noise on one of my trucks and in the end it was a leaking connection very well hidden on the back of the pump under the...

    Hood Markings

C/C is Condition Code as evaluated when entering storage. A is good...F is obsolete and will not be repaired if anything expensive breaks. PRES. is Preservation (blank indicates not done) has to do with going aboard ships and how much preparation it received (like sealing intakes etc.). Drive...

    Fuel bleeding

Another approach with a (clean) shopvac is to use the output side of the vac to push a little extra air into the tank filler neck vs. trying to suck fuel from the lines. I've done it. Worked great for me. No gatorade bottle required.

Military Cutoff Disconnect Switch HMMWV Battery

Interesting. Can you share details on the switch you've found? I've been using the flaming river switch with removable key on the positive side but it's only single pole(which does prevent truck from being started, but doesn't actually kill the 12V side. lousy I know.) I've probably been...

    Rocker Reinforcement M998

Just looking at pics on google I see that piece present on many early bodies from 1985-1989. I haven't seen it on 1990 or newer trucks. I doubt it means anything relative to an accident. Probably just something that evolved along the way. Similar to how some early tailgates featured AM...

    Fuel bleeding

I agree with Coug. If all you did was change the injection pump and you're now not getting fuel to the filter when cranking, it suggests to me that your lift pump isn't working. I've never personally had any problem with my check valves but I've had lift pumps fail repeatedly. It was running...

    M1151 trouble shooting

I'm no RWH but your rig looks like a nice one to me. body is good. seats look mint. Hood has probably been swapped, it's rougher then the rest. minimal corrosion on the under world. hasn't been dunked in paint repeatedly, that's nice if you want to paint it. Pretty much complete except...

    M1097R1 from GovtPlanet has arrived

They are underpowered and sluggish beasts. That said, It took me months to realize the parking brake on my first hmmwv with a TH400 was set way too tight. I was releasing the brake before moving, but it was constantly applied & dragging. (you can tighten/loosen by turning the knob that is...

New guy in NC, M1123 needs some love

I wouldn't recommend the 400A unit, it's just ridiculously over the top in size and capacity. Their purpose is a vehicle with lots of radios/computers/ huge power generation needs outside of the normal running aspect. But if you have it in hand, there are usually the 400 amp conversion kits on...

    Question on Govplanet observations

There is a huge distinction to be made between a non-running truck, and an incomplete truck. Consider every unit that operates HMMWVs, almost inevitably over time, will end up with vehicles which broke something substantial, that become sidelined & are no longer operational. These are commonly...

Is this 6.5 a lost cause?

Well she's confirmed junk. I could see the rust and water line diagonally across the glow plug for #6 when i pulled it out. In hindsight, that probably would have been just as good a diagnosis without all the hassle of the intake, injection lines, head removal. The corrosion is deep. I...

Is this 6.5 a lost cause?

    Hilarious and true.
