    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Thanks for the early update NDT. Thanks for all you've done for a fellow member! I can't wait to see more photos and read the maiden voyage debrief from Mark.

Saw One for Sale This Week

Nice, I had no clue there was a crew configuration. If I read the price correctly, is $15K in the ballpark for what this is worth? I was not impressed with condition, but couldn't really tell much from this side of the fence.

Saw One for Sale This Week

I posted these over in the MV Spotted thread, but thought you would enjoy seeing them here too. I have no idea of the model, but it appears to have been modified to a crew cab configuration! Sorry for the quality. I was illegally parked in the local utility company lot and across the street in...

    Stuck Dump Truck

Using your MV to fulfill dreams and haul your stuff is very rewarding... Using your MV to help your neighbor who thought you were crazy for owing an MV, PRICELESS!

So I want to buy a HMMWV.....

-larger and more difficult to maneuver (in comparison to smaller vehicle) -some jurisdictions require CDL license -harder to find parking -heavier parts when working on them - look at the tires on a 5 ton! -garage/storage size = large Nothing folks here complain about, just factors that play...

So I want to buy a HMMWV.....

That's a really nice hard top Predator. Is that yours? Or just photos you found on DP's site? I've only seen the raised ones. Aren't they called a mechanics top?

So I want to buy a HMMWV.....

DreadedOne, I'm in the same boat as you. Looking at auctions and trying to figure everything out. I will say that spending lots of time reading on this forum will be invaluable. Read, read, read... Also, it is my personal opinion that the "model" is not as important as getting one in...

    fuel filter change

It could be your filter, but is likely an injector or injection pump issue. If a filter is plugged or has excess water, the engine usually feels like it's stalling out instead of accelerating.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

mkcoen, are you on the road with the LMTV? Inquiring minds want to know! Take some photos of your new acquisition during stops on your trip home. I'm sure you will provide much commentary on the machine, driving dynamics, etc. We are looking forward to a full debrief of the mission.

    MEP-8xx wet stack info

Mine has improve significantly with running it under a load. I started with an old electric range and logged about 4-6 hours on 3 different weekends to exercise the unit. It's nice as you can vary the load with different sized burners. I also set one burner on "medium" so it would cycle on/off...

What's the actual realistic price ending on the GOV auction site?

There's a really detailed thread with closing price data located here: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?130121-Closing-Auction-Prices-In-Review Enjoy!

    1983 Govplanet Hummervee

Wow! Very interesting. There was another thread here somewhere discussing early prototypes. I'll include a link if I find it. There was some good information in there. EDIT: found it and it looks like you already know about the thread as you've posted there as well. Nonetheless, some good HMMWV...

    Joint Light Tactical Vehicle. PICTURES

I suspect groundwater contamination prevention protocols are the catalyst. Do the vehicles (any of them using drip pans) come with their own pans and a storage location? It would stand to reason, if this was a pervasive requirement, they should have them on board. In either case, this is a...

    1983 Govplanet Hummervee

Isn't the serial number on the mfg data plate inside the driver's door frame? Are you thinking you scored an early prototype or something? We still would like to see more pictures!

Interesting there design cues from other vehicles in there. Do I detect self-leveling suspension? Sweet!

    Spec ops roll cage

It looks like the "B" pillar is completely removed for this cage to go in. I wonder if it has flat stock to strengthen the windshield frame? I can't really see that in the photos. Looks like a "no doors" operation. I'm sure you could still have some sort of canvas on top to provide a bit of shade.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Just read this whole thread. mkcoen, you've got a bunch of good friends in the "green iron" business! I'm thinking twice about thinking of bidding on an LMTV after this thread... Not because I wouldn't want one. Not because I couldn't use a military sized pickup truck. I just don't think there...

what is the difference between hmmwv wheels

I think part of the gripe with the older 8 bolt wheels is that most of them have the 36" bias tires. If I bought a truck with these wheels, I'd be scouring auctions and "for sale" listings for radial tires with the newer wheels. There also may be a hub/bolt pattern change in there somewhere too...
