Over the past year I developed some starting issues. Sometimes the truck cranks right up like new, other times takes 10-30 tries to start. Pressing on accelerator slightly helps the issue some of the time but not every time. If you turn engine off after running and try to restart it kicks...
Hey Guys,
I have a tire starting to bubble on one side and decided it's time to move away from surplus tires to aftermarket. I had planned to upgrade to winch or snow plow springs to allow for 39.5" tires but after measuring it seems like I may already have heavier duty springs. I measured...
Well we just put the old half shafts back on and the noise is gone so I guess we experienced the same thing. I am not sure why the new half shafts are making the noise. My first set was a cheap set off ebay, the second set I put on was from hummerpartsguy and were OEM. Both made the same...
Reinstalled the shims and the noise did not stop. Again there was no noise before removing shims and installing new rear half shafts. We raised it up on lift and looked and disc and calipers and saw no issues. Braked while on lift and getting wheels spinning and did not hear noise. Sounds...
@Ken Hey Ken thanks for the reply. Everything looks good. The only change is the removal of the shims and new half shafts. Again, I only hear the grinding when I first apply the brakes then it subsides. The lighter I press on the brakes the worse the noise sounds. This didn't happen before...
Hey guys,
I replaced both ebay bought rear half shafts with two american ones from hummerpartsguy. The grinding sound remains. It is loudest when I lightly press on brake. Again this sound wasn't there before I replaced rear half shafts and removed rear shims. Could removal of rear shims...
I'm sure that is the issue. The two I replaced on the front are probably the same as I bought them off ebay but I haven't had issues from them when replaced. Again the listing states they are 10K U.S. made half shafts but I don't have way to verify that is the truth. The only time that I hear...
Hey guys,
I took the hmmwv to my buddy's shop today. I replaced both rear half shafts and removed the shims in the rear. There were 2 shims on the passenger side rear and 4 shims on the drivers side rear. I removed all of them as most of the people in post I have read of doing it take them...
It had the same issue before all the new parts. I just had it aligned I hope they would have caught that but who knows. Good advice I didn’t consider that I will try it.
I’ve got a local Offroad shop that has balanced my tires on a H1 I used to have but they moved locations and have been waiting on equipment to do it. No where else in town will even look at a HMMWV or 2-piece steel rim. They should have equip set up in a week or two so I should be able to see...
Those are some serious weights! So if that’s the case I can’t be the only one to have similar issues. In my defense I did call Centramatics directly and ask if they would be effective and give them weights of wheel before ordering. They seemed knowledgeable and said the HMMWV model they sell...
Well I’m not sure they do become effective lol. But I believe they claim the low 20’s on their website. I purchased them as I was having a lot of trouble finding a shop that would balance my tires and I had this issue which I thought at first was likely an balancing issue.
The tires and rims are in great shape. Agreed that’s a lot of mass for the centramatics to overcome if greatly unbalanced. But there are a lot of guys rolling on rims and wheels like mine that don’t have the same issue and I would think the centramatics would at least have some sort of effect...
